While on the subject, there seems to be little information on BF/RM chart positions/gold (et al) disc awards outside the UK/US. Maybe one of the Roxy site owners could organise a section, with help from members of the list. It's entitled "Aphrodisiac," and it's a wonderful two-CD set of Bryan Ferry live in Norfolk, VA on the Bete Noire tour in August 1988. The recording was given to me by the taper, and the front cover is a never-before published photo of Bry from this very show, from Maggie Curran's personal collection. This is among the very best audience recordings from the 1988 tour, although you do sort of have to put up with guitarist Jeff Thall wishing he was Joe Satriani, and not quite making it. I am offering six further free copies of this show to the list. I'm expecting at least THREE of the people responding to commit that they will tree/weed/chain/B+P it on the Avalon list as well. *People who have agreed to tree it get their copies made first. If you tell me that you will tree it and you fail to do so, then I will not copy for you again. Please note that the requirement this time is that, if you tell me you will continue this show, you must continue it ON AVALON. If you want to spread a few copies in other lists or groups as well, that's fine, but I will expect the three "retree-ers" to make announcements on THIS list. If you would like a copy of this boot, you must: 1. Be willing to send two good-quality blanks and a SASE for your copy. 2. Be one of the first six people to reply to this offer. 3. Tell me whether you will be continuing this offer to Avalon. 4. Reply by Thursday, Apr. 25. 5. Understand that if you don't hear back from me, you must take my silence as a polite apology, that you were not one of the first six. (But you have nothing to lose in trying!) 6. Reply to me, and not the list. That would be especially silly considering the reply-to. So long lives this, and gives life to thee." That sonnet and more than 45 others by Willie S. are presented on "When Love Speaks," an album that attempts to unify music and drama through these 14-line poems. A Who's Who of actors contributes to the project, which benefits England's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts - John Hurt, Diana Rigg, Ralph Fiennes, Kenneth Branagh and Fiona Shaw are among the readers. Each of the actors is a pro and is able to make the poems come to life. But where this album shows its artistry is in the musical interpretations by Keb' Mo' , Bryan Ferry, Rufus Wainwright and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, among others. In their hands, Shakespeare's words are not only vibrant - they feel contemporary, despite the Bard's ancient thee's and thou's. Mo' is especially terrific, bringing Sonnet 35 to the American South for a bluesy update of the poem that fathoms life's dualities. Ferry is another high point, asking - with Roxy Music fragility - "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" But there's little middle ground to this disc. If you don't want to hear sonnets, "When Love Speaks" will be a drag. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Apr 2002 09:10:20 -0500 From: "paula brown" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re-make/Re-model next concert >Now that I would like to hear!
