I would say that in the past I have been as critical as anyone on the flow of information and there is very little I have said that I would take back. In some instances I appreciate that their are things behind the scenes that we do not not know of which can hamper the info being made public, but overall a lot of info could have been issued timeously but was slow in being released as there was nothing in place to dissipate the info efficiently. This has generally been accepted by Jim Lawn at the official Information Service. Jim has recently made an attempt to improve this situation and recognised recently (Top Of The Pops Audience & Tour Schedule Issue) that ready made forums are there and by utilising these avenues, the end result will be the same and that the info will get to the fans as quick as the 21st century can. I would say in my experience of being a fan since 1979 that the information surrounding this album and tour has been the most up to date I have seen. vivaroxymusic.com & roxyrama.com, unofficial as we are, have been the 'mouthpieces' for a lot of the information but as Chris said in a previous post, a lot of it comes to us from official sources. They have recognised our audience and that we can reach many people quickly. This mailing list, the many fan based sites including my own, the forums on official sites and fan sites are all part of the loop of information that gets around to those who need it. The record company, offical Information service, Bryan's management etc all play a part in this loop and so if the information doesn't come through under the banner of their own site etc, it doesn't mean they are not par of its issue. vivaroxymusic.com is indebted, not only to Virgin Records, Jim Lawn, Bryan's management, tour Promotors etc who all have a job to do in promoting our artist, but to the many fans who have mailed me at the site with small bits of information here and there that are added and distibuted one way or another to the many thousands who still have a need and passion for the latest news on Bryan's releases, tours, press appearances etc. Virgin records have been good enough to display the artwork/track listing for Frantic through my website and even allow me to do a web broadcast to many people around the world with some tracks from the album. Jim Lawn anticipated the response myself and Chris would would get for the Top Of The Pops audience and knew it was the quickest and most efficiant way that would ensure that many deserving fans would be there and that Bryan would have an audience of familiar faces. Jim has carried on this connection with the websites and forwarded the tour dates. These dates were made available publicly to the fans as soon as they could within the confinds of contracts etc. Overall I would say that the information is getting to us aws quick as possible and , as Colleen said, does it matter where it comes from as long as it gets to us. In defence of official sources like the Record Company, Management, Information service etc, I would state that they are part of the loop even though they might not be the ultimate contact to the individual fans. We are currently in an 'everybody wins' situation here. We get the info we want, a chance for good tickets at concerts, previews of the album etc, the Record Company get good publicity for their artist, the Management/Office get the exposure they need for their artist, the Tour promoters get their tickets sold, so for the time being we should grateful for what we have and hope it remains the team effort it is all proving to be. It is not denied by Jim Lawn that bryanferry.com is not the site it could be and I am told there are reasons for that. This is intended to be rectified and in the interim, all other avenues to channel the information will be used. I would say that this mailing list has been important over the last few years that it has, I speak for myself but I am sure others agree, been one of the inspirations for me to build a website. I have heard many times it said by lots of others that before this mailing list, they believed they were one of a few who had this passion for the music of Bryan Ferry. From being on this forum I have realised that there is an audience out there who want to share in this passion, without that audience there would be no vivaroxymusic.com, roxyrama.com, the forums on manzanera.com, pauldrum.com & Roxy Music Central etc which have all shown the Record Company/Management/Bryan's Office etc that there is still a desire for the work of one of the major artists in the music world the last 30 years. I don't know the reason why, maybe it's the release of Frantic in Europe, the press and media coverage, tour announcement etc but my website has just had its most successful week. When vivaroxymusic.com was launched at the start of the Roxy tour, it had an average of 9000 pages read on the site per week throughout the tour peaking at 12600 for the week of the final show at Hammersmith. The interest dropped to an average of around 6000 pages per week until the start of the news of Frantic filtering through. Since the first week in February when I published the artowrk for the album, the site has had around 11,000 pages read per week and the weekly update this morning from my server statistics has sown me that over 18,000 pages have been read on vivaroxymusic.com between 6AM 15th April to 6AM 22nd April. This of course makes all the time and money invested in building the site worthwhile but more so, it pleases me immensly that there are many people out there who still have a passion and interest on an artist that has been a big part of my life to read 18,000 pages on his work. As long as that interest is there, I will continue to share in it. regards John O'Brien ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 06:20:42 -0400 From: OBrienFerry@AOL.COM Subject: [AVALON] Rolling Stone May 2002 There is a one page article on Bryan Ferry on the May 2002 issue of Rolling Stone. Here`s a short summary of B.Ferry`s interview with Patrick Griva on 18 April 2002. First, Patrick congratulated Mr. Ferry on his new colourful album and said that he had discovered Ferry`s superb harmonica skills on this album; Ferry said that he`d been practising for a while! Then followed Ferry`s comments on the album - that he wanted to do something different, spontaneous, new; that Roxy last year`s tour gave him a lot of energy; that he doesn`t write as much as he used to; that he enjoys live performances; that he`s trying to make songs more special, because he has to add them to the existing repertoire, and it gets harder and harder; that he had writer`s block for some years; that it`s sometimes quite nice to write with other people (meaning Dave Stewart and all the other great musicians on this album whom he mentioned straight away). He also said that it`s good to have an open mind about music which is sometimes the best for conveying deep emotions. He also said he`d love to come and play in Latvia, but somebody has to arrange it with our promo authorities. When asked to name 3 most important things in his life, he said..... no, you name them! The person who will be the first to email me the correct answers (at a-song-for@europe.com), will get a tape (an audio cassette) with the interview (in English of course) recorded from the very beginning to the very end. I hope nobody would get this too serious or feel offended, it`s just for you to have fun. (Although I am definitely serious about sending the cassette!) And, I`m NOT trying to make any profit whatsoever. Besides, I have no idea how many of you did manage to listen to this interview via the Internet. So, no cheating! Post your answers soon. Sitting in judgement was a guy from the NME (who Steve kept light-heartedly referring to as a youngster,) Steve's regular crew and another guest who's name or indeed reason for being there total escapes me! The later gave a fairly positive "it's quite catchy" thumbs up. The NME guy was a little sneery however, and told us all how Bryan was another artist that the NME "famously fell out with" (he was harking back to his earlier interview with Steve.) and the amusing nicknames that they invented for him in print. Steve (gawd bless him) leapt to Bryans defence, saying that Radio 2 playlist does have influence on the charts these days and don't be surprised if this record enters at No1 in a week or so (OK I think he overshot the mark there!) Steves crew then went on to give a good review and a general chat broke out about how genuinely cool and well mannered he was when he gave them an interview a while back (poss. during the Roxy tour?) I think Steve (and Radio2 in general) will be championing the singles over the coming months! ...and don't be surprised if Bryan turns up on the show in the coming weeks either! "The Right Stuff" (at about 1:35 a.m.) and "Kiss and Tell" (at about 2:20 a.m.) were worth staying up for ... ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 21:45:46 -0400 From: "Helen Thorpe" Subject: [AVALON] Any help from Brits appreciated Is anyone planning on attending the Newcastle BF show on Oct 22? Any ideas when tickets go on sale? And is anyone mad enough to travel up from the London area, and if so - how are you getting there and back? Unless further dates are mentioned (Chris, John? Do you guys know anything?) this is the only show I could attend, and would be in my hometown, also. BTW - if anyone's going - please email me off-list. I am licensed to drive in the UK, and will split all rental and petrol costs. Thanks! ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 23:41:46 -0700 From: "Keith Shockley" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re-broadcast of old SNL with Ferry - ----- Original Message ----- From: Ronald L. There are actually some pretty good skits in that episode as well. Of course this was back in the day when the show was funny...Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, etc.... Too bad that show sucks so bad now.
