The use of the official site is a control thing sure enough. Shame is, they have the control but not the will to update BF's news to the 21st Century. Well, if it sounds Pollyannish of Miles, Lord knows what I have been sounding like. Mr. Ferry has a fantastic new album out which is garnering rave reviews, there are lots of interviews, tour dates have already begun leaking out, many of us just saw him last year, and all I read is whinge whinge whinge. Frankly, I am astounded by the amount of whining on the list with respect to _Frantic_. First everyone hated it because they didn't like the title. Never mind most of those folks hadn't heard a note of the music. The photo was bad, the typeface worse, and the horses were off. Then, despite several posts to the list which very clearly said that the tour would be in two parts, more whining about tour dates and complaining about Mr. Ferry's perceived biases and blinders. Never mind that the album hadn't even been released yet. No! We Must Complain! The fact that Mr. Ferry's last 3 ventures have brought him into areas close to most of us in the UK and North America notwithstanding, we must pillory him, facts be damned. My first time was 2nd August 1980 for The Flesh and Blood Tour at Wembley Arena. I missed out on tickets for the Manifesto Tour so after joining the Roxy Music Fan Club I managed to obtain a ticket for the first row at Wembley. The atmosphere was absolutely electric as South Downs blasted from the speakers. As the curtain opened I expected to see Bryan and the band but to my amazement all I saw was the venetian blinds slowly opening to the sound of The Bogus Man. Being my first Roxy concert it was fantastic although looking back maybe the set list was a bit short but I guess the highlight of the show was The Thrill of it All. I have asked this question before but, did anyone go to the Brussels concert on the Avalon tour, I went with an organised coach trip from London, I remember there was about 18 coaches leaving London and we stayed in Antwerp, I seem to remember there was a lot of Scottish fans on this trip, sorry to wander off topic but it brings back great memories. The first time I was really aware of David Bowie was when we played on the same bill in a place called Croydon in the south of England. He was of course very much bigger than we were then, and still is. I think he's very talented, but he does borrow things at a furious rate. He's very observant, very shrewd and sharp. And he can always spot what's coming up and use it. I think Hunky Dory was his most brilliant work...though who am I to say anyway what's good or not?...but if you asked me I'd have to say anything he's done since then hasn't been as satisfying as Hunky Dory.
