Reminds me of the start of SOTT, one of his best singles IMO.So I sit there in stunned silence for the rest of the song and as it draws to a close I'm totally delighted. Delighted for him (and me of course!). The voice is great and the harmonica -simply irresistible. New confidence, and an interesting new laugh. As cool as ever - probably more so and. Any UK TV interviews lined up? I guess Ferry will sing (or has sung) on the Parkinson show but doesn't talk though in this online clip he really makes an effort to sound engaged and interested in the questions. (It must have almost killed him.) Han mentioned that Belgian TV aired a clip of the recording of one of the Dylan covers. Does anyone know if that sort of footage will get shown in Britain some time? It was intriguing, also, to hear Bryan say that the song Frantic was dropped "at the last minute". A future B side? I'd love it for Bryan to go back to releasing singles that aren't on albums - things like Virginia Plain and Pyjamarama. Often, the singles begin to sound irritating and out of place on albums after repetition. Releasing something strong and commercial as a single would almost guarantee its success - and it would be a cool thing to do. Would anyone - John? Tom? - care to give us an estimate of how many unreleased tracks Ferry now has in the can? It was odd to read Bryan quoted as saying recently (I've forgotten where but it was on a link provided on this site, I think) that Don't You (Forget About Me) was a "great song" and that he really regretting turning it down, thinking he had enough singles on the Boys and Girls album that he was mixing at the time. It would have become the albatross for him that it did for Simple Minds. (I'm not a fan - perhaps it's that that puts me off it.) Perhaps Bryan could have carried it off... his reputation manages to survive endless recitals of Let's Stick Together and Jealous Guy. Thanks M & TriTri. In Sweden, if you search Bryan Ferry, you'll get 1 hit: 'Frantic 2002-03-04'! Search on release dates, you'll find April 15., but that's what they have been telling for two months now. Nothing else..Virgin Norway last updated their site on Feb.26! Last Sunday, the day before Frantic was released, they still had it mentioned under 'some day in April'. On Monday (the Great Day!) it was gone! No mention of Frantic any places! I sent an emain to their media manager and asked him to close down the web site, and not irritate me anymore! I told them it was a shame to see their treatment of Bryan Ferry! etc... But the newspapers in Norway treat him and Frantic very well, like 'The rest of the world'! The review in Dagbladet, ends like this: 'It is impossible not to like Ferry's voice and be enthusiastic about his sedutive pop music. We've sorta been promised a North American Ferrytour in the fall, so speaking only for myself, I'm holding off on my bitching until I see an itinerary for it! :-) (Or, heaven forbid, it ends up not happening at all.) Actually, thought it sounds uncharacteristically Pollyannish of me, I'll side with the folks here who have pointed out Ferry's sustained level of touring activity since late '99, and the high quality thereof. Seems like the man has given us a lot to see and do and talk about recently, including the most unlikely thing of all -- no, not the Roxy tour, a new Ferry album! So I feel rather kindly disposed toward Mr. Ferry right now, and am willing to make allowances or, mostly, to simply wait for him to come to a continent near me. BTW, I am now holding back a bunch of 2002 vacation days, simply because the following acts may all be touring the U.S. in the last four months of the year: Wire Bryan Ferry the Soft Boys I'm not missing *any* of them if I can help it, and I will travel for them all. This post got me thinking about what I would call my dream concert.... Roxy Music and David Bowie on the same bill circa 1973. I know Bowie has long been a huge Roxy fan but I was wondering if Ferry & company have ever made any comments about Bowie. Since Bryan loves to do the covers thing, it would be great to hear him cover a Bowie song...Life on Mars, Rebel Rebel, The Man Who Sold the World come to mind but the possibilities are endless. Keith NP: Only You / Portishead > This sounds like a cracking night out! > > Bowie tribute band CH-CHANGES play De Salon at the Oosthavenkade 9, Vlaardingen-centrum on Saturday April 20th. The gig also features the great Roxy Music band Re-Make/Re-Model. The bands play between 23.00 and 2.00 at night. > > > ___________________________________________________________________________ > The subliminable footer says: > To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: > unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 07:52:14 +0100 From: "Duncan Watkins" Subject: [AVALON] TOTP2 Baby Blue TOTP2: Wednesday 24th April BBC2 7.05pm.
