It has been noted... But it's also similar to the 'waltz' setting on the 1978 model Bontempi organ! And it's also possible to sing Gorillaz's 'Clint Eastwood' to the intro. And it also has similarities with U2's 'The Wanderer' (the last track on Zooropa with Johnny Cash handling vocals). It's still the best track on the album though. BTW, BBC London 94.9 this morning reported that the album comes out today, and I've been hearing that date quoted by a few radio shows and in a few magazines. It's a shame that Virgin (or whoever changed the release date) forgot to tell the media! Since quite a bit has been written about it, I cannot add very much other than a few brief thoughts. It's a very good, heterogeneous album, no bummer, and some most excellent tracks like A Fool For Love, the majestic, great San Simeon (welcome Alison Goldfrapp! hope she'll do more work with Ferry), and above all, the truly outstanding, gorgeous, wonderful 'I Thought' which manages to combine Enoesque simplicity and beauty with Ferry melancholy. It's one of Ferry's best tracks ever. I could listen to it over and over again. Is there anybody (other than me) who believes the new arrangement of 'San Simeon' could have been inspired by the arrangement of 'The Only Face' on the ATGB to some extent? Yes, the album bears resemblance to TBSB, and yet there are different and new aspects. It's nice that this album differs from much of Ferry's 90's work, but 'Mamouna' remains my absolute favourite. Diet, knife or Botox, I wonder. The Tatler article is informative and amusing but so full of apparent admiration that it's almost a press release or something you might have expected Simon Puxley to have written. It praises, it admires, it drops names at a frightening rate. It's a Ferry brochure, really and just as well illustrated as you'd expect. It must be causing a chuckles among Bry's circle - it's amazing how he manages to accomplish this sort of thing almost every time, moving from paper rags like the NME and Melody Maker to the glossy music mags via The Face and then to Tatler. I wonder if Mrs Ferry pulled a few strings to get Geordie Grieg (Tatler's Editor in Chief) to put that article together. Grieg sees Lucy herself as 'stylish, independent, unpredictable and beautiful [... - ] no malleable rock chick', and describes her as 'a professional photographer, a skilled horsewoman who hunts'. I imagine that Grieg identifies with Ferry: Geordie Grieg was educated at Eton - he has recently completed a book called "Inside Court", which is about his grandfather - a friend of George VI - and his home, near Coleridge. "I've been very lucky. I wasn't born well connected, I've created what I am," Geordie commented, when asked about his fame and wealth.
