That's probably why most Germans have a very bad pronunciation of English - in films, there are no 'subtitles when we speak', unlike in Scandinavia, for example. I'd prefer subtitles, but then, getting to hear the 'real' voices of Robert de Niro and Clint Eastwood was a bit of a let-down! Still, the documentary was quite good and well-researched, they even got most of the dates right and it was nice to see some interview footage from 2001. The Ferry and Eno interviews from 1994 have also been featured in a documentary on Bryan from the same year, which was broadcast on the German music TV, 'Viva'. Again, translation overdubs, but if anybody's interested, I've still got it somewhere. However, it's not as thoroughly done as the arte broadcast. On that small part alone, I have always liked "Help Me". The higher the non distorted volume, the better. "I'm a prisoner to the night Life is hell in the light of the day But where do I hide from myself" I relate - nearly three decades have passed but I still acutely remember the pain of living through this lifestyle. "I'm a stranger far from home, won't you help me Gotta find where I belong, help me I don't wanna be alone, won't you help me Gotta find the way to home, help me" I knew at the time something centrally important was missing, but it remained illusive and unattainable. "Bricks without a mortar Tearing me apart It turns me upside down The night time into day Wake me in the morning Tell me from the heart That I need love to help me find a way" The key: Love - of self, but not selfish. Love - of others, not just those close to you but love of mankind and the world about you. This song has reinforced the positive decisions I have made and executed over many years - it serves as a pleasant reminder of a former skin shed. In that respect, this song has affected my life. Therefore I treasure it! Best wishes. KBP PS. But I do maintain "Help Me" lyrics were penned with Dracula in mind. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Mar 2002 09:30:07 -0500 From: "Grant Goggans" Subject: [AVALON] TOTP Is anyone else achingly curious to find out what's going on and what songs are being played in that London TV studio, or is it just me? Well, i arrived outside the studios at about 11.20am and already i saw faces i recognised, it was great to catch up with everyone again, brought back good memories of last year. I think it was about 12.30 when we were let in (Bryan fans first of course) and we were lead to the ''Green Room'' which got increasingly hotter by the minute. After a while we were all lead through to the studios where i established by spot at the front of the stage and which i didn't leave until Bryan had gone! Could see all the usual suspects in the front row! First on was Gareth Gates (young singer, has become well known after coming 2nd in highly known talent show ''Pop Stars''. Is also curruntly NumberOne here). Guess i must look more like a Gareth gates fan than Bryans after getting asked 3 times why i was standing at Bryan's stage! Don't they understand the young have good taste too! After 4 or 5 recordings of Gareths ''Unchained Melody'' it was time for Bryan! On came Colin Good who sat down at the piano (where else?!), Julia in a rather lovely sparkly top and on hobbled Lucy on crutches after hurting her ankle. Two guitar players later and on came TGPT and finally Bryan wearing a black suit, no pants showing this time so i guess i loose that bet! : ( After one false start Bryan starts to sing ''Baby Blue'', and much to our enjoyment they had to do it again. Then it was time for ''Goddess of Love'', i believe he mimed to this, is that correct? I'm sure there will be more detailed reviews to follow. Next up was a performance from a new garage/r'n'b act, dont remember his name, but it wasnt anything spectacular at all. After that, 3 songs were performed by The Pirates. Now the absolute best part of that, for me, and I'm sure many will agree was Guy Laweys dancing! he even got asked to get into the front row! well done Guy, you looked great! It was great The day started at 11.30am with an half an hour queue . Time was passed by swapping RM BF stories (hello to the young lady from Yorkshire who started travelling at 5am on her own thats dedication) After gaining entrance and a brief spell in the green room we finally was led into ToTP studio First act was Garth Gates (winner of plastic idol or false idol or is it make me really rich so i can be idol) was on stage ,Had to keep my head down when he was singing if anybody from work would have seen me on TOTP swaying and clapping to him I might as well leave town. I was talking to Garth outside and questioned him why he chosen to cover the Righteous brothers He replied and I quote " I had always liked the song and thought it was a fitting tribute to the first people to fly a plane" Anyway he cleared off to probably ruin another classic song and Mr ferry and his band entered the stage. The first thing the struck was how well Mr ferry looked (growing stronger through the Years)dare i say younger and slimmer and cooler A dark gray/black Italian cut suit complete with a black unbutton shirt and patten black pointed shoes supporting that classic ferry haircut. With harmonica in hand Baby blue sounded great ,this was then followed by ''Goddess of Love'' which I thought was just excellent I hadn't heard either of the tracks before today but if either are anything to go by FRANTIC will be a joy Anyway Mr Ferry thanked the audience waved signed autographs and was gone The rest of the afternoon was spent clapping or cheering on cue with a brief rest spite for the pirates who i thought was very good and worth listening too , but lets face it who can follow Roxy or Ferry and keep your attention Great day well worth the trip thanks again guys .
