Not sure what you are referring to as "Killing Time" ... But Bryan himself said he liked doing the Dylan material ... reread Daniel's "15 Minutes" interview from last week ... Bryan said: "We started with the Dylan songs and it was very refreshing. It's been many years since I have recorded a Dylan song, but I have always enjoyed singing his songs because of the wonderful lyrics. The Dylan songs set the tone of the record, it was very spontaneous, almost a band feeling." Much as I'd rather have Bryan's own material rather than Dylan covers, from what I heard on the MFR radio yesterday it sounds like a decent version at least. -= )-(eather =- >--------------------< hjames@thewebgal.com The Roxy Music Archives: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ Music Trading Lists: http://www.thewebgal.com/hjames/trades.html Roxy Music Trade List: http://www.thewebgal.com/hjames/a-list.html Van Morrison Trade List: http://www.thewebgal.com/hjames/van-list.html >-----------------------------------------------------------------------< ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 14:57:14 +0100 From: Daniel Atterbom Subject: [AVALON] Frantic spoiler Ok, If you do not want a spoiler on "Frantic", skip this. Cruel 3:55 written by Bryan Ferry / Dave Stewart Copyright Control / Eligible Music I wonder what the story is behind this track? 03. Going Down 3:07 written by Don Nix published by Almo Irving Music (Universal Music LA) It's a bit ironic that the ladies man at 56 records a track that has a double meaning. 04. Goddess Of Love 3:32 written by Bryan Ferry / Dave Stewart Copyright Control / Eligible Music Candle in the wind was not enough, another MM homage. 05. Don't Think Twice It's Alright 4:06 written by Bob Dylan published by Special Rider Music Ferry likes Dylan's lyrics and it shows. 06. Nobody Loves Me 3:22 written by Bryan Ferry / Dave Stewart Copyright Control / Eligible Music Irony is the word here, Ferry being happily married with children. 07. Ja Nun Hons Pris 0:35 written by Richard Couer-de-Lion traditional The most surprising cover on a rock album--ever, 08. Fool For Love 4:42 written by Bryan Ferry Copyright Control A great song, a possible single. 09. Goodnight Irene 3:21 written by Hubbie Leadbetter / John Lomax published by Ludlow BMI It shows that this is a favorite for him since way back. 10. Hiroshima (Ash Howes Mix) 3:14 written by Bryan Ferry Copyright Control Another movie inspired song. It's quite haunting and reminsd me of "Mamouna". 11. San Simeon 4:33 written by Bryan Ferry / Dave Stewart Copyright Control / Eligible Music Yet another movie inspired song. Citizen Kane is one of my favorite movies and one only thinks of Hearst, rosebud being the nickname for his mistress' private parts. 12. One Way Love 3:06 written by Russell / Meade published by EMI Music Publishing Ltd. Ferry is good at covers, making them into his owen songs. 13. I Thought 5:40 written by Bryan Ferry / Brian Eno Copyright Control / OPAL MUSIC This is one of the best tracks on Frantic. Do I like it? Yes, but I rate "Mamouna" higher. By it's just me. Do buy it. Paula - ----- Original Message ----- From: GeekUSA823@aol.com Sent: Monday, March 18, 2002 11:44 PM To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] Introduction Hello everyone, I am new to the list and just wanted to say a quick Hello. My name is Christina, I'm 28, and live in Seattle, WA, USA. I've recently discovered the beauty of Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry. My first exposure, aside from a somewhat subconscious memory of some 80's material, was through the film Velvet Goldmine. I have been self-indulging in the glam/progressive/art 70's rock scene for a few years now. Unfortunately, as it's been a mostly solo adventure, I never heard Roxy Music. The song that knocked me out was 2HB. Thom Yorke sang it on the soundtrack, but I couldn't help but wonder about the credited Bryan Ferry. I did some research and ended up with Roxy Music's first album (desperate for the originals of what was quickly becoming familiar material). What can I say, I was floored and nothing has been the same since. I love it all, the glam rock, the swoon croon, the rhythm and blues, the stylish pop, the jazz. The tremble in Bryan's voice, his sincerity, his SOUL is intoxicating, incomparable. Next I got Stranded, and most recently, The Bride Stripped Bare. I'm happy to say that I've just gotten over the clutches of financial ruin (slight, although not too far off joke), and can hopefully begin building my RM/BF collection. I was lucky enough to be able to check several CDs out from the blessed Seattle library for free (For Your Pleasure, Country Life, Siren, Avalon, Mamouna, and As Times Goes By), which has only further quenched my desire. I also rented Roxy Music: Total Recall and The RM/BF Video Collection, both of which I loved beyond love. The visuals, like the additional music, further intensified my feelings. I have been in a state of bliss for a few weeks now. If I speak, I talk about Roxy Music, if I sing, I sing like Bryan (well, not quite, but my heart's in the right place). I just want to say Thank You to whoever, whatever brought me to where I'm at right now. I look forward to exploring more magic and learning all I can about the maestro and the music. Other influences include: Tom Waits, The Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan, The Beatles/John Lennon, Cat Stevens, Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Page, T.Rex/Marc Bolan, Thin Lizzy/Phil Lynott, John Frusciante, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Chet Baker, Queen, etc. Other hobbies include: playing my guitar, experimenting with lyrics, photography, unhealthy amounts of computer time, and reading. I work with the formerly homeless in downtown Seattle, but would ideally like to be a professional musician and/or photographer. Ah, it's good to dream.
