Will this really be the ONLY Northern date? Or do they mean at the time of announcement it is currently the ONLY one? Surely if there are all these other acts on the same day this will not be a full set?. I find it strange that there is no "proper tour" for this album as he should consolidate on the success of the 1999/2000 & 2001 tours. Mind you just a thought, I wonder if his management feel he has saturated the more general public (these are people who don't follow him round the country/world, hanging on to every move & word) with too many live shows over the past 3 years. It seems there are parts of UK that think the country ends at Carlisle. The Edinburgh show, 4 hours North of Liverpool is with a different promoter so maybe the Liverpool show is the furthest North by that particular promoter. I think we will get a list of all the dates simultaneously by the official sources when the whole tour is organised rather than as and when each show is confirmed. If the Edinburgh show is anything to go by (only a few seated tickets left after 3 days) we will be officially informed of the tour when most of the good seats are sold. Ferry did indeed perform it live in his solo shows in late 1974. In fact, it was the set opener. Personally, Ferry's version sounds like a bit of a joke with the over-theatrical "spooky" vocal. The Stones' original wins hands down every time. And did anyone else have trouble with the intro on vinyl? Mine ALWAYS jumped accross the guiro (sp?) halfway into a drum beat. For Your Pleasure is listed at #30. Michael Jackson (?)at 31, but no Elvis Presley. Puh - leeeeese. Thanks J.O.B. for the broadcast today. It's nice to hear Bryan's vocals on top of the mix rather than buried in there. My name is Christina, I'm 28, and live in Seattle, WA, USA. I've recently discovered the beauty of Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry. My first exposure, aside from a somewhat subconscious memory of some 80's material, was through the film Velvet Goldmine. I have been self-indulging in the glam/progressive/art 70's rock scene for a few years now. Unfortunately, as it's been a mostly solo adventure, I never heard Roxy Music. The song that knocked me out was 2HB. Thom Yorke sang it on the soundtrack, but I couldn't help but wonder about the credited Bryan Ferry. I did some research and ended up with Roxy Music's first album (desperate for the originals of what was quickly becoming familiar material). What can I say, I was floored and nothing has been the same since. I love it all, the glam rock, the swoon croon, the rhythm and blues, the stylish pop, the jazz. The tremble in Bryan's voice, his sincerity, his SOUL is intoxicating, incomparable. Next I got Stranded, and most recently, The Bride Stripped Bare. I'm happy to say that I've just gotten over the clutches of financial ruin (slight, although not too far off joke), and can hopefully begin building my RM/BF collection. I was lucky enough to be able to check several CDs out from the blessed Seattle library for free (For Your Pleasure, Country Life, Siren, Avalon, Mamouna, and As Times Goes By), which has only further quenched my desire. I also rented Roxy Music: Total Recall and The RM/BF Video Collection, both of which I loved beyond love. The visuals, like the additional music, further intensified my feelings. I have been in a state of bliss for a few weeks now. If I speak, I talk about Roxy Music, if I sing, I sing like Bryan (well, not quite, but my heart's in the right place). I just want to say Thank You to whoever, whatever brought me to where I'm at right now. I look forward to exploring more magic and learning all I can about the maestro and the music. Other influences include: Tom Waits, The Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan, The Beatles/John Lennon, Cat Stevens, Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Page, T.Rex/Marc Bolan, Thin Lizzy/Phil Lynott, John Frusciante, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Chet Baker, Queen, etc. Other hobbies include: playing my guitar, experimenting with lyrics, photography, unhealthy amounts of computer time, and reading. I work with the formerly homeless in downtown Seattle, but would ideally like to be a professional musician and/or photographer. Ah, it's good to dream. Truly, Christina members.aol.com/GeekUSA823/ ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 01:19:13 EST From: Helchat@AOL.COM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Introduction Christina, Welcome to the list!
