They both played in a band called 'Numbers' so it might be under that name. This single was produced by Bryan Ferry, a rare appearance by BF on someone else's record. A single by "Ouida and the Numbers" has been advertised for sale on newsgroups but Pick Up in a Nightclub doesn't appear. The single is Runaway b/w Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, classed as New Wave/Punk and produced by Hugh Cornwall, of the Stranglers. Label: UA/Modern Records. "Excellent upbeat female-vocal glam/pop/new-wave a-side track," says one web page. Is this the same Ouida & the Numbers? I'd love to hear something that Ferry produced. On a good day, he'd get great performances and the ideas and arrangements would be outstanding. But on all the other days, well... I'd be amazed if he could bothered to turn up to the studio, such would be his disdain for the whole thing :-) Some of the comments he made about working with the other members of Roxy were so cutting, I pity any band brave enough to attempt to work with Bryan at the controls. Presumably Ouida split up after Pick Up in a Nightclub and destroyed all copies of the single :) Where did you hear about this, John? Hi! in the last "rock & folk" French magazine, April issue, they say about this DVD: " We've announced to Bryan Ferry, just before his interview about his excellent new album , that this DVD was out, and we told him it would had been a better idea to remix it in 5.1. He have totally agreed with us, jumped on his mobile phone, called London front of us...to be told it was impossible to change anything, the DVD was out, too late.." Incredible! No one to give such basic informations to Bryan.. Perhaps it's a way to convince him to join the Avalon mailing list ;-) ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Mar 2002 21:29:18 -0600 From: "Rod LeCloux" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ferry Produces Ouida >From: OBrienFerry@aol.com >To: avalon@smoe.org >Subject: [AVALON] Ferry Produces Ouida >Date: Fri, 15 Mar 2002 15:31:53 EST > >Has anyone heard a single by Ouida with guitarist Chester Kamen (Boys And >Girls/Bete Noire) called "Pick Up In A Nightclub. No, I haven't, but isn't he on tour with Roger Water's. Also, in Water's line-up is his son Harry. Chester's in the 2nd row of pics on the left side. http://www.intheflesh2002.com/rehearsals%20pix.htm And Harry's the dude with the "hair" and lots of it!!!
