He was staring into my eyes until they filmed over. It was one of the worst days of my life -- this cat was about 15 but had CHF. We had taken him to Switzerland with us when we went there in 1985 for a six month visit; we ended up staying a couple of years. I'll never forget the first time he discovered the snow, which there was plenty of in Graubunden. Anyway, he died on May 31, 1996, leaving behind my wife and I, and our adopted cat, Bun. A month later, we decided it was time to get another kitty, so I was sent out to find one. The cat I picked was born on May 31st... He was too young to remove from the litter, but on his 8th week birthday, I snuck away and got him and installed him in the bathroom with a catbox and some foodie. Boy, was my wife surprised when she got home and found him, sleeping in the catbox! It's hard to believe that was going on 6 years ago... Sounds like you'll soon be swimming in puppies... ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 21:13:18 +1100 From: "Michael Walker" Subject: [AVALON] Concord 2001 Hi Everyone, Just wanted to says THANKS to Nick for remembering us Avalon list members Downunder, here in Australia on the Concord 2001 trade offer. (hey, that rhymes!) Sorry to butt in here guys, but I'm wondering if weeding recordings is the answer here. Weeding is a way to distribute music quickly and effectively amongst a large number of people, and is used extensively on a number of Yahoo groups that I belong to such as Prog-CDR, FloydLive, Yesswap etc etc. Basically the concept is this: Someone with a recording that they wish to weed makes an offer on list, and then sends out a copy to 3 recipients. These three people don't send anything back, but agree to each send out another three copies to people on the list. These nine then offer it back up to 27 people etc etc until the weed is saturated, and everyone with a burner who wants one already has one. At this stage, the discs are finally sent to the burnerless folks on the list, and everyone is happy. (It's a sort of reverse pyramid-scheme, where everyone wins!) (of course, anyone wanting to trade for discs being weeded are more then welcome, as long as the people being sent the disc for nothing fulfill their obligations to the weed. Weeding compliments trading, rather than replacing it!!!). This idea obviously depends on the honesty of everyone involved, especially in the early stages of the weed, but the benefits are that the discs eventually get to everyone who wants them, and the cost is only that of 3 lots of blanks and postage. It also means that someone can build up a nice collection, even if they have nothing to trade. All that it takes is folks that are generous enough to start a weed in the first place. I'm tempted myself, but I'll wait until the vote is in, as I'd like to know what people think about this. Are there any objections to this sort of thing on this list.?? The only problem that I can think of is that weed offers tend to add to the number of emails in a group, especially towards the end of the weed. I'd like to see an on-list discussion here, but if anyone has any comments for me alone, please email me at notdixon@ihug.com.au (rather than reply to this one - I'm at work!). Thanks - Doug ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Mar 2002 05:07:20 -0600 From: "Judy Kaufman" Subject: [AVALON] from Rolling Stone "BRYAN FERRY has completed thirteen songs for his next solo album, "Frantic," including two BOB DYLAN covers; the album is due this spring." Tickets start to go on sale and I'm out of the country, without Internet access, next week. Great! If dates become available for London and Scotland while I'm away, maybe some kind people who get extras could keep me in mind when deciding who to share them with? Jane. We are about to announce the opening of the newest tree, which is a 3 CD set of the best Texas performances during the Tom Joad tour. It is called Waltzing with the Ghost of Tom Joad. This will be the sort of tree Grant and others discussed a few days ago -- with signups, branches, leaves and all the rest. At the moment we have main branches in the US, the UK, Canada and the Continent. Anyone Down Under, or in Asia, or anywhere else that isn't covered may contact me if you are interested in being a main branch in those areas. Typically Mystic Music releases end up in the hands of many hundreds of people. Again, this is for people who enjoy Bruce. I will make one announcement here when the doors open for anyone who's interested. Info can be found in my webpages. I switched webhosts yesterday so anyone who had difficulty seeing my pages must now put the www back into the URL to reach the pages.
