I love Ferry's voice. Sometimes, in the live recordings, it gets a bit more nasal than usual and I have to say something about it really makes his performance special -- no other performer sounds more interesting, more intimate or more "live" than he does at those times. Such a unique voice -- with A Song For Europe kind of leading the pack for me as far as live performances go. If his records are still selling, he is winning Grammy's and being voted 5 stars by Rollinstone's magazine how could he possibly be a has been. Sounds like ageism to me. Ageism is something Bryan has spoken out about in interviews himself. He knows quite well what it is like to be the victim of this insidious affliction. Consider that Bob Dylan is one of the most covered artists ever and you realize musicians of all genres appreciate his writing ability. Your criticisms remind me of the woman sitting in the stands of a parade, 99 paraders have their right foot up and one has his left. The woman turns to another woman in the stands and says "look at my son, he is the only one doing it right". running out of time ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Feb 2002 23:45:07 EST From: InterEireann@AOL.COM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: Richard, JohnD, Martin comments Er...in reference to the reference by CJEM to "the rise of punk in the 70s"..I thought punk was rising in the 70s and dead by the 80s. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Feb 2002 23:29:50 -0800 (PST) From: Aleks Kocan Subject: Re: [AVALON] Fw: Frantic Ban - --- terrypaulrigz8c wrote: > I think we should abstain from discussing the new > album until we have > actually heard it It's true that we don't know exactly what the new album will bring, but at the end of the day at least this thread is "on-topic". Martin (Stockman) has already provided a small preview, it looks like promo copies are starting to circulate, so for me it's a valid discussion. Aleks Yahoo! Someone (can't remember who) did make a comment about Dylan being a has-been. Dylan is still a very popular artist, however, he is not my "cup of tea" - I neither like or dis-like him. If Bryan Ferry covers a Dylan/Lennon/whatever track, it's Bryan Ferry I hear when I listen to it, not Dylan/Lennon/whatever. Aleks Yahoo!
