Was listening to Radio 4's PM programme yesterday (oh alright then, I am turning into my Mother, but then again so's Bryan, since that's his fave station, too!)when there was a piece on the Warhohl exhibition, the preview of which was last night. Friend of Bryan, the socialite, Nicky Haslem was interviewed as he'd known Andy Warhohl as he'd worked in NY for American Vogue in the days when Warhol was Vogue's graphic artist! Interesting...just goes to show how old Nicky must be, as Warhol went on to do the Factory thing a few years later!! Next...Eno wrote a piece for last w/e Sunday Times (which I only got around to reading today...such is life with a small child!). Basically, he derides the modern music industry's obsession with TV awards and sings the praises of radio-based awards, such as that for world music. These events show case worthy unknowns, rather than feathering the nests of those already clutching gold albums and the like. Eno goes on to say that radio can cover the less popular genres as it is cheaper to make and that the listener is forced to use their imagination and cannot rely on a series of pre- packaged images to provide the all enveloping aural and visual experience. He argues that that is a more enriching experience than just sitting in front of a TV mindlessly absorbing and then forgetting the whole point of what has just been on...(just to give you the flavour of the article, as it were..). And btw, Eno doesn't own a TV!
