I have no idea where I first got this idea, but I do remember telling friends "I told you so!" when 'Carrickfergus' was first released. There is a harmonic similiarity between some of BF's songs and some British folk and folk-rock (though I must admit that I don't have enough technical knowledge to defend that statement). In fact, if you listen to Fairport Convention's song "Sloth" from the album "Full House", you will hear an instrumental section that would not have been out of place on FYP. Has anybody else ever suspected that there was a folkie streak in BF? Or is it just me? Mail, which will automatically uudecode and present the binary as an attachment." Yes, as an attachment. If you carefully read my earlier response, I specifically addressed the uuencode sent as an attachment, and uuencode sent as the mail message. They are handled differently - most email programs decode the uuencode attachment (for our convenience) and pass it along as it is (as an attachment), but should the uuencode be the mail message itself (and not an attachment) the mail program will not uudecode UNLESS its standard input is uuencode! "Of course, automatic uudecode does not guarantee virus _infection_; in both of these mailers, one would still have to download/execute the virus attachment in order for infection to take place." I agree. "since my mailer automatically processed the uuencode text and produced a binary attachment, the listserver, by simply propagating the uuencode text intact, "sent" me a copy..." This is where the facts get too fuzzy to definitively draw conclusions: I interpret what I see in the archives as ASCII text that is the mail message, the last three emails in question sent uuencode as the mail, NOT as an attachment! Smoe.org did not uudecode the text message - it was sent to your server as a uuencode message without attachment or any reference there of. So unless your mail server automatically accepts uuencode as its standard input it should not automatically uudecode mail messages. If I were you I'd get a different email program since this setup leaves you vulnerable. Also, register a complaint with your server and follow up on it. (I'm assuming your uudecoding server is not one from work where its standard input may be uuencode!) "the arrival of uuencode forms of a virus would not have to be the result of a malicious individual (or individuals) specifically targetting an email node or mailing list, but rather the workings of the virus itself" The arrival of uuencode forms of a virus are harmless, they most likely are innocently passed along. But remember, once that uuencode is uudecoded the virus can not be passed along unless it is sent as an attachment. - Otherwise, as the mail message, binary code can not be transmitted through standard mail programs. But as you say, Jason, a clever programmer, with the will to do so, will find ways to manage code to their desired affect! Of that, we can be sure. Best wishes. It is ok but has a few flaws, I don't know whether there is another, better one. Also I live in Australia, but that would not really be an obstacle. I got "Kiss the past goodnight" already, maybe you got something else to trade? You could also try to contact errobert.sawers , I know he's got several recordings of this show, I think even a video or 2 of it. I've heard this song by other singers , & it is a wonderful Celtic folk song. How to do this? Easy recipe: Hit reply to any "Avalon" message, then carefully extract the senders e-mail address, then copy and paste it into a new message. Get distracted for a moment, after that, return to the reply window, type in your answer and send it off. Just trying to be helpful, will try to refrain from writing messages when I'm tired. Now you all got my postal address I'll try and tidy up my P.O. Box in case anybody does want to come and visit. I'd love to go back to Glasgow - to also visit a few stores (Therese!). Hopefully, I'll be back in the UK for his tour. It's too early to tell. A lot of my wardrobe is done but still requires more work. Erm, yes, way ahead of the game.... Tho' I don't even know what I am wearing to The Divine Comedy concerts next week. We got a nice view of Bryan's tighty whites sticking out the back of his pants at the last show in London. Did anyone get a picture?
