A colleague of mine works a t a local radio station and he uses it. You download the programme (costs $30 ish. You put a cd in your PC CD tray and it reads the disc tracks and times. You do this for several CDs then you go on line and ask it to search the on line data base. It recognises the CD by the track numbers and lengths and then updates your own data base. It adds the songs, musicians, music type etc to your data base. My colleague has told me he has entered over 3,000 CD's into the data base for the radio station and it has recognised every one of them (except bootlegs of course.) You can also find jpegs for the album sleeves on the database too. My colleague says it's as quick as putting in a CD and ejecting it after about 2 seconds. He has went on line after loading 200 CD's in less than an hour and it updates his database in minutes. There is a free trial that allows you to upload 30 CDs max but for an infinite amount you have to pay the $30 dollars. This statement isn't exactly true; I know of at least two mail programs, Pegasus Mail and Yahoo! Mail, which will automatically uudecode and present the binary as an attachment. Thus, uudecode can be a "passive" activity. Of course, automatic uudecode does not guarantee virus _infection_; in both of these mailers, one would still have to download/execute the virus attachment in order for infection to take place. > I do not > understand how the digest was capable of sending you a "copy > of the myparty virus (the file www.myparty.yahoo.com was > attached,...)" in binary form or as an attachment! Perhaps > I misunderstood you. In my case, since my mailer automatically processed the uuencode text and produced a binary attachment, the listserver, by simply propagating the uuencode text intact, "sent" me a copy of the virus. I'm not sure whether the listserver can be configured to detect and filter such content, however. I believe an intelligent virus writer, knowing that certain mailers will automatically handle uuencoded attachments, could implement their virus to forward itself in various attachment formats to ensure maximum infection. Thus, the arrival of uuencode forms of a virus would not have to be the result of a malicious individual (or individuals) specifically targetting an email node or mailing list, but rather the workings of the virus itself. Whether that is the case in this instance, I don't know, especially since, in your survey, you found relatively few instances of uuencode text propagation (thus suggesting that perhaps someone took a little extra effort in these few cases). The Album was one of a batch of about 8 european artists promos that were passed to me recently, and it probably goes into the typical 'europop' feel, though this one, and this one only, has a difference because it is another attempt to introduce french language pop to the UK, which has failed so many times before. Usually, French artists would be requested by their record company and management to sing their songs in English for a UK release, but if any one record is going to break that mould for the first time in ages, I assure you it's going to be this one, because of the way the song is written, clearly by people who are very experienced songwriters. Mylene Farmer (very famous French singer) is behind this, and according to the bio that came with the promo, there was a long, long search for an artist who would 'fit the song'. When Mylene met up with a Moroccan girl singer, about 17 or 18, called Alizee, that was it, and since then the promotional machines have gone into major overdrive on this one, as Polydor (I think) want to attempt to break the usual 'language barrier bias' of the UK. They've got the financial clout to aim straight for the 6 - 16 market, and my guess is the UK won't be able to escape from this song very soon, as it'll be everywhere. Have had loads of requests for the song in the shop already, from that very age group. In promotion, big money talks..., and wins. Reecey... Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo! (I'm willing to go but I think I'll regret it.) Another friend wants to see a performance at the Globe Theatre with me. Another friend has yet to let me try his homemade ice cream and see his supposedly impressive record collection..... It seems that all of the old Ferry soundalikes are on the go again, but then with Ferry being more in the public eye is it really all that surprising. It never fails to get me all choked up and when performed live is a showstopper in its way. The only other traditional tune that affects me that way is Auld Lang Syne! As time goes on, or by, I am appreciating TBSB more and more. Great SOTW pick! I am a music junkie into the scene since 1981. I grew up all my life in Newport Beach Southern California. My father passed away the night of the last Bryan Ferry concert November 7th 1992 in Los Angeles my friends held up a sign and Bryan Ferry played the song "Avalon" for me and I slow danced to it. Some of my other favorite bands are: Visage, Japan, Softcell, Front 242, This Mortal Coil, MOEV, Enigma, Laibach, Colourbox, Xymox, Dead Can Dance, SPK, Mission UK, The Blow Monkees, Yaz, Chris And Cosey, Peter Murphy, Bowie, NIN, Ministry, Sisters Of Mercy, VNV Nation, Wolfsheim, Assemblage23, Book Of Love, Depeche Mode, New Order, Joy Division and Peter Godwin. I've seen Bryan Ferry twice in concert and Roxy Music once in concert this past year and got to go backstage once. KB, I've checked my wardrobe and did not find a single pair of large white undies, so I guess not.
