(there is a Ferry connection) Have just seen advertised (in the new Mojo) a series of concerts at the Barbican in London, amongst them is Craig Armstrong (and here's the Ferry connection) who released the original version of This Love. He's doing a special concert with the London Sinfonietta and featuring music from his albums and also his film scores (Baz Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge amongst them). He'll be joined by guest vocalists Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile), former Lemonhead Evan Dando and David McAlmont. It's on Sunday 7th April at the Barbican (very civilised). I'll be there!!! The new Bryan Ferry solo album is indeed called "Frantic" and has a release date of March 4. This might be pushed forward. "Frantic" is said to have 12 tracks. Two of them are Dylan covers: "Don't think twice, it's alright" and "It's all over now baby blue". Other five titles are "Cruel", "A fool for love", "Nobody loves me", "Going down" and "I thought". If any of these are covers he did not know. The man at Virgin also said that a Roxy Music live album will be released after Ferry's solo album has runned its curse. Don't shoot me, I am only the messenger. :-) Another artist who comes back after a few years absence is Peter Gabriel. "Salisbury Hill" is in the Tom Cruise movie "Vanilla Sky". On February 25 a Best of -- Shaking the tree and "mini vinyls" of the back catalogue are released. Later vinyl LP's plus standard remastars and a new album will be out in September. Perhaps Mr. Ferry would release them, but would there be a record company that would make and distribute the releases? BF may be a perfectionist. He must also be a realist. How realistic? Given his track record, the next album of original releases may be available when he is well into his mid-sixties! Guess he must have invested his early year career earnings very well that he has been afforded this luxury of time. Or maybe, his earnings are significantly augmented with proceeds from work other than that of record/concert sales. Perhaps Mr. Ferry is a part-time musician, after all, diversification can be a good thing! If you exchange the words 'a workaholic' with 'an obsessive', then I think you've got "No Strange Delight" pegged! On a personal level I quite enjoy the number, but for what ever reason, I have long associated NSD with Lady Day's "Strange Fruit". Yes, the titles are similar - however, the association was based on some other quality, perhaps the style or musical tone. The performance also made its way to a bootleg company called Switch On! Devil Kwsk, who have been selling a nicely packaged silver CD for some time. But we're not selling this, we're offering it freely by trade, and if anyone does start acting like Switch On and sell it, then we're gonna set Bill MacCormick on you with a hickory stick. I am offering six further free copies of Cirque Royal to list members. I'm expecting at least three of the people responding to commit that they will tree it on-list as well. If you would like a copy of this boot, you must: 1. Be willing to send a good-quality blank and a SASE for your copy. 2. Be one of the first six people to reply to this offer. 3. Tell me whether you're willing to make copies as well (about three or four, nothing maddening). 4. Reply by Friday the 18th. 5. Understand that if you don't hear back from me, you must take my silence as a polite apology, that you were not one of the first six. (But you have nothing to lose in trying!) 6. Reply to me, and not the list. That would be silly.
