The money came from the sale of Gilmour's London, England, house. "I don't need the money, and I just thought it would be a good thing to do," Gilmour said in The Sunday Telegraph. "I've had that house for nearly 20 years. It's made a fat profit and I've scarcely used it for the last six or seven years." The Independent newspaper reports he bought the property for $430,000 (300,000 pounds). Gilmour, 54, said he sold the home to simplify his life. "You collect Ferraris and then you've got to collect people to look after your Ferraris, and you've got to collect buildings to house the Ferraris," The Sunday Telegraph quoted him as saying. "Life gets very complicated. And eventually, at least in my case, you think 'I don't need this stuff.' And suddenly life gets simpler." The proceeds will go to Crisis, a charity that helps the homeless. Gilmour is a regular contributor to the organization through his DG Charitable Trust. He sold the home to Earl Spencer, brother of the late Princess Diana. Gilmour lives in a farmhouse in West Sussex. He also owns a house in Greece. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2002 15:29:55 +0000 From: "Simon Galloway" Subject: Re: [AVALON] SOTW: "No Strange Delight" Looks to me more like a confession from a workaholic. My senses must have been acute because I picked out the piano on this track which I'd never noticed so intensely before. Rather haunting , I thought. And to find it SOTW. This is another of Ferry's laments to a parted lover, something he does rather well , and often. An intelligent lyric on top of a decent tune. Is it forlorn? I thought it was when I first heard it. Perhaps if everyone chipped in ... [mind you -- the auction was a year ago. So, you'd probably have to go talk to Bryan directly. I was hoping the bar would be near empty, or at least the Avalonians would have some sort of "locating device" in plain sight. However, the place was packed to the gills with suits loudly celebrating the end of their workday. In my nervousness I could not remember the name of the Av. who had arranged the gathering, and asked the host if any sort of Avalon group had a reservation. He gave me sort of a goofy look and checked his list to no avail. I had a look around the establishment, really didn't see anything promising, so my daughter and I left. :-( It was hard to reason with her why we had cut short our trip to Navy Pier for nothing. If and when Bryan tours this year, it should be mandatory that all Avalonians planning get-togethers wear a large recognizable item--I suggest a leopard summer-weight anorak! ;-) Karen So sorry that you missed us that day. If I remember the reservation was in Kelly's name or mine. The Chicago Avalonians ( i.e. the Chicago Martini Mob) don't have a "standard" uniform that would have distinguished us from the other "suits" that day. I did have my Roxy Music's Greatest Hits t-shirt on that could have been an indicator, but you would not have seen it unless you were actually in the bar way in the back ( which is where we were). We hope the next time we meet that you will be able to join us. I think there are photos of us on the Avalon pics list so you could recognize us beforehand. Although I don't have a leopard anorak ( would be cool though) I do have cool leather pants like Bryan.
