OK, so this probably isn't *that* amusing... Several days ago, my best pal Dave Merrill was questioning the need for so many audience tapes of the Roxy tour to be circulating. As he put it... "I can understand collecting a band and having one show from each tour. One. Plus the show where the band got drunk and played Hank Williams covers all night. And I don't think you're gonna get that with Roxy Music." Blur played their singles in chronological order, Cheap Treat, it has been reported on this list played an album or two, Brian Wilson do Pet Sounds, there are problably more examples. It would be great to hear the unexpected like Joe Jackson's a capella version of "Is she really going out with him?" on his live album. But on the other hand, the Copenhagen show was a good one. And it is enough to own one good recording from each tour. My nominations: From the Siren tour: Stockholm 1976. From the Avalon tour: Out of the Blue NYC or Osaka 1983. From last years tour: well the jury's still out on that one, no radio broadcast being complete. Hi All My first (non gig) meeting with Avalonians. Glasgow 28 Dec 2001. Arrived at the Tron bar 15 min late. no familiar faces, There was a group of people expanding by the minute, After 1 hour of waiting (and a couple of drinks) I plucked up the courage to ask if they were Avalonians?, Silence and looks of disgust followed when some smart ass asked what star sign that was, I blurted out sheepishly Its a RM thing, more silence and looks of disgust, Finished my drink and left, felt rather foolish. Mobile phone rang 10 minutes after I left, J'OB to say the were in the Restaurant at the back, Went back and Had a Fantastic Night ( thanks all ) Listened to RM/BF and sang along with J'OB on air guitar (and every other instrument) while watching Wizard of OZ DVD in slow motion (work it out yourself). Thanks for a fantastic night, next best thing to RM live. Anyone else had embarrassing times like that and what is the sane definition of an Avalonian. The album, written and recorded over the last six years, will be Bryan Ferry's first album to include original material since Mamouna in 1994, and has been produced by Rhett Davies and Colin Good. Davies was the producer of Roxy Music's 'Avalon' and Ferry's solo album 'Boys and Girls' during the most commercially successful period of Ferry's career, whilst Good was instrumental in the arranging and recording of Ferry's 1999 Grammy-nominated jazz album 'As Time Goes By', and was a member of the reformed Roxy Music in 2001. The album was mixed in Los Angeles late in 2001 by long-time Ferry collaborator Bob Clearmountain. The album will be released via Virgin Record's German subsidiary. The album is expected to be a mixture of original and cover material, with contributors believed to include Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (who co-wrote the title track), Chris Spedding, Paul Thompson, Lucy Kerplansky and Brian Eno amongst others. It is likely that Bryan will be touring this Summer in support of this release. Release dates are as yet unclear, although Virgin Records' Japanese site currently quotes a date as early as the 8th of February 2002. I will post more complete details, including a track-listing as soon as they are available. - -------------------- Two New Roxy Music DVD Releases There are two new DVD releases of Roxy Music back catalogue material. This is the first time that a comprehensive collection has been made available, although selections from the material have appeared previously on DVD, VHS and VideoCD. The 1973 session includes Brian Eno on keyboards, whilst the 1974 session showcases his successor Edwin Jobson. This is the best footage of the early incarnations of Roxy Music available.
