I've found much merit with the "In Your Mind" album - I love "This Is Tomorrow", "Love Me Madly Again", and "Tokyo Joe". The remainder is good. However, I cringe at "Rock Of Ages", and I find the music style of "In Your Mind" dated. The song, IYM, is one of the few I'd really like to hear Mr. Ferry rework because the lyrics deserve better backdrop. Overall I prefer "Mamouna" over "In Your Mind" for precisely the same reasons as does Christian, who so elegantly stated in his SOTW: LMMA post, December 17, 2001: ..."Sometimes there is just too little space, too much brass, too many backing vox, a sound a tad too saccharine - the soundscape not having the possibility to unfold like on Ferry's later albums - and there, he has used even more recording tracks in the studio!" I agree with you that "In Your Mind" could do with a makeover. The production of the album is a bit flat at times but the songs I still find damn exciting. If you place it within its year - 1977 - and all that was going on around it at the time its some way out on its own. I'm surprised that none has come forward with a call for "The Bride Stripped Bare" as the list's most favoured solo effort. I think its up there ( they're all up there?), but my personal fave is still "Bete Noire". Maybe I should have said " the list's most favourite under-rated solo effort". Maybe time for a poll.
