But this morning on Radio 2's Jonathan Ross show as hosted this week by Mark Lamarr, Boy George was on. He was saying that Culture Club were asked to be support to Roxy Music ( I presume about '81/82 as Culture Club seemed to be fairly unknown) but refused on the basis that they would have to pay and not be treated particularly well. He didn't seem to be indicating that this was a peculiar scenario for support bands and he did note that he was arrogant enough to think that they didn't need to go through the slog of being mere support artists. Interesting.... Anyway a happy new year to y'all. Seems that when you install these music/file-sharing programs, you also installed a lottery game called "ClickTillUWin" whether you click Yes or No. It contained a Trojan horse. The Trojan looks like it is sending your name and computer's IP address to a web site. There are reports of the same activity with the KaZaA file-sharing software. Our advice: uninstall these programs immediately from your computer. HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF Pretty depressing news, but the solution remains the same: Always have your antivirus program running; download regular virus definition updates; never open an unexpected attachment; never accept (click on) a link to an unknown Web site--it could be a lure to an infected site where you needn't do anything other than visit to become infected; and disable scripts (or choose Prompt) from your browser. To disable (or Prompt) the running of scripts in Internet Explorer, select Tools>>Internet Options. From the Security tab click on the Custom Level button. Here, check Disable (or Prompt) for the options under "Active Scripting," "Scripting of Java Applets" and "ActiveX." Note that disabling these features may affect the functioning of some Web sites. In Netscape, select Edit>>Preferences. Open the Advanced category options to change the settings for Javascript. Like buses, you wait ages for one, then two come along at once.... Just as we get a German release of 'The High Road' on DVD, up pops another Roxy DVD release from our friends in the Fatherland. (They've even invented a new currency to price it in). A long-overdue, close-to-definitive compilation of Roxy's Musikladen appearances has now been released on both PAL VHS and DVD. For the uninitiated, Musikladen was a TV music show broadcast from Bremen in West Germany in the 1970's and featuring bands of the day in extended live sessions. The Roxy sessions involved are from 1973 (with Brian Eno) and 1974 (with Edwin Jobson) This is the first time that all the appearances have been compiled onto a single release, although they have appeared in part on VideoCD, video tape and DVD (not to mention A Rhapsody Divine...) in the past. The DVD version reputedly includes versions of 'Oh Yeah' and 'Dance Away' which I don't think are strictly Musikladen appearances, but are apparently billed as 'Playback on Musikladen'. I'm unsure of their original derivation, and cannot absolutely confirm their appearance, as this is received information from a Roxyrama contributor. However, he assures me that he has seen, held and read the DVD version, so it definitely exists. The track listing is as follows: 1. virginia plain 3:16 2. do the strand 3:45 3. edition of you 3:37 4. in every dream home 7:00 5. remake remodel 6:12 6. street life 3:07 7. pyjamarama 3:47 8. mother of pearl 6:22 9. amazona 4:15 10. psalm 9:07 11. all i want is you 2:42 12. out of the blue 4:25 13. if it takes all night 4:15 Bonus tracks on DVD version only (as yet unconfirmed) 14. oh yeah 15. dance away Details of the VHS version here: http://www.ard-video.de/musik.htm#14 note the legend - 'auch auf DVD erhdltlich' which means 'also available on DVD' if my rudimentary German hasn't failed me. Here is the VHS version on amazon.de (cheap at around a tenner): http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005UOKF/302-9243933-9446452 Please note that the DVD is a Region 2 disc. Please ensure that your player will accept this type of disc before buying. Amazon also have the High Road available on DVD 'in one to two weeks' Vielen Danke, Chris . ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V7 #5 ************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
