His people could be sending out press packets about a soon to be released album. Now a list member says RM is going to be on TOP2. This seems to reinforce the RM brand name, not Bryan Ferry. I find it hard to believe a new album is around the corner. Chris, if EIL has any news about that March release, now that it is officially 2002, please let us know. Thanks again. I found a number Warner Bros. K2 56290 (CD4) [U.K.] on the net, but neither http://www.q4music.co.uk nor http://amazon.co.uk came out with anything. For all you that have not heard nor heard of Deaf School, here is a mid-70's Liverpool act that was inspired by Roxy Music and pre-dated their fellow Liverpudlians Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Sounds like the kind of stuff an old prog-rocker like me might enjoy. Since I value your opinions, I thought I'd ask: Anyone familiar with Mogwai and would you recommend them? If so, which album(s)? Also, do you think The Strokes are the real deal or an overblown hype? Thanks for your input. Their second album I swapped, much to my great regret. I can't remember the title but I have a feeling it was called "Don't stop the world". The 3rd album "English Boys and Working Girls" I never heard. All this from a long faded memory. Maybe some one on the list remembers their discography better. I did see a CD release a few years ago which collated the best of their work on one disc. |I never bought it 'cos I was broke at the time. I heard My Father My King on my radio station and was absolutely transfixed--stood stock still and turned it up LOUD. Called the station as soon as it was over to get the lowdown--he put me on hold while two others were asking the same question. Ordered it from Amazon that night and played it on repeat for a while, still haven't tired of it. (Its melody is a familiar Jewish chant, but it's truly a progger's tour-de-force. I guess some classify the band as death-metal, but I wouln't, on this 20+ minute track.) It's all I know of their work, but I'm eager for more. Also, in an off-topic but Roxyesque vein I read about the band Vivabeat after Daniel posted a bunch of obscure Roxy WWW references, and found them maybe not the greatest lost band of the 80's but really, really good and undeniably influenced by Roxy. Read their tale of promising beginnings and really bad luck at www.vivabeat.com.
