That last message was meant for the Chicago Avalon Martini Club, not the whole list. But, upon reflection, I don't mind if the whole list gets it. You are all welcome to play ATGB Track #6, and are all welcome for a Martini. Happy New Year, Andrew (Happy) in Chicago Noted pal. Let's lift a glass to toast this list which bought us a wealth of information and bought us together. The Roxy Tour stop in Chicago and the martini get together were a good memory for me. Let's keep the good vibe going. Cheers! It's a little early (a LITTLE early) to raise my martini to you, Andrew, so I'll just have to raise my mug of coffee. Here's hoping we all find a way to get together soon in the new year. Hope to meet you in Paris in April, There's no excuse for not coming ( o.k. only when you're dead in April, but even then I'm sure we can arrange something). Every once in a while I think I don't like either the song or the album, and then every once in a while it ends up in rotation, and I find myself listening, even though I'd heard the songs a hundred times before. I remember the first time I heard the song--I was completely taken by it, as befits my natural inclination towards love at first sight, erm, sound. It's a more sophisticated and less slick (yes) sound that what had immediately preceded it, and has both the depth of emotion and the standoffishness which which came to the fore with Mr. Ferry's later solo releases. I know there are arguments to be made against the way the rest of the band works on this album, but even if you are in the camp that thinks it is a Roxy album only by the merest gloss, that's still some gloss. I thought then and still think there's a lot of potential in the album, and that it's partially realized in spots on _Boys And Girls_. But I don't think that Mr. Ferry has quite hit that mark yet. Jokes aside, it was another horror day here today, the air as dry as it has not been for 50 years, 39 degree Celsius and terrifc wind howling. As predictable by now, some idiots went out to light some fires in the bush for maximum impact and destruction. No relief in sight for another week. We got a firefront only a couple of kilometers away from here, our car is packed. On a somewhat paradoxical lighter note: The fireworks at the harbour where terrific. Back to Roxy: I'd love to find out what exactly is going to happen in Paris in April.
