Well, as to how I became a Roxy/BF fan - I heard some songs of them from time to time on the radio (the most popular ones here are "Slave to Love", "Avalon", "Don`t Stop the Dance", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow"), and it was really "love from the first sight" (first sound, in fact). It happened at the age of "sweet sixteen" (now I`m 23), I liked the meaningful lyrics as well as the fantastic music. But I didn`t know who the author was. Once I saw "Avalon" on VH-1, but they gave wrong info - that both the band`s and the song`s names were "Avalon". Of course nobody knew such a band. My friend just happened to like "Love is the Drug", but again we couldn`t figure out who was the author/singer. A year ago, in September I somehow "made friends" with the great WWWeb and started searching for some info. That`s how I found BF sites. And in spring this year I got to know from these sites that ROXY are going for a World Tour. A crazy idea to go to their concert grew into a firm decision. I wanted to hear them in England because it`s Ferry`s motherland, but the best tickets were sold out very soon, so I went to Hamburg in September. If you have time, you are welcome to read my review (rather a story) about the Hamburg gig, Chris Turner kindly placed it on his ROXYRAMA site. It`s www.roxyrama.com -> 2001 Tour Reviews -> 19 Sept, Hamburg. All I can say is that I`ll never forget this day. I think there must be some more RM/BF fans in Latvia, but frankly - people seldom recognise their name/s. If they hear their music - yes, they start recalling they`ve heard it at discos back in the 80s. But for me they`re not just music, it`s something more. Much more. I`d be happy to meet true fans like you some day, I think we might have something in common since we like RM. I`m thinking of trying to find fans here in Latvia, too. All right, this letter is already getting indecently long! Hope you all have a Merry Xmas and good luck to you all in the coming year. _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Dec 2001 21:34:17 -0000 From: "Mark Yates" Subject: [AVALON] Greetings Just like to take this opportunity to wish each and every member of the group a very merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year. Queen`s "I`m In Love With My Car" also feature`s that same wimpy engine sound. I've been trying to figure out why I always thought it was a motorcycle and the reason probably is 'cause I rarely listen to "Siren" but usually listen to live, "unauthorized" recordings, the best of which is somewhat muffled. Yesterday I popped the LP on the player and cranked up the volume and heard the door open (coincident with a musical treat), the door close -- hardly a slam -- more of a luxuriously appointed, well-padded door closing securely - -- and the lovely muffled roar of the getaway. Sounded quite different than my 327 CI V-8 67 Chevy Chevelle with its dual-exhausted headers, that's for sure... Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
