Love Me Madly Again (Ferry) Are you still cutting it on the street Do you make savage love when you meet In the zig-zag shadows that promises much Don't talk about it--show me Talkin' about it's easy Don't talk about it--love me up Is that lightning exciting ya quite as much Would I could feel it, would I could touch Don't talk about it--it's not the same Love me madly once again Don't make it easy for me Some like it tough you see Loving is easy for me A whole lotta love has passed this way Don't talk about it--show me Talkin' about it's easy Don't talk about it--love me up Is it as passionate as it seemed? Was it for real or some kind of dream? Don't talk about it--it's not the same Love me madly once again And should we meet again Uncertain, out of reach On the other side of time Barriers broken Thoughts entwine Never words spoken Love me madly again And who can draw the line A strand from me to you A world apart, a smile Loving is easy Hard to end Love letters tearing Love me madly again And when you find the time Let's share a silk caress Somewhere for a while Mirror to mirror Frame on frame Within or without you Love me madly again ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Dec 2001 11:18:34 -0500 From: KB Porter Subject: Re: [AVALON] Row, row, row your boat ... (was cycle lifetostreet life) Dear Nick: It is never too late for heart felt "I'm sorry"'s. I hope you enjoy your time spent with Avalon List, its members make it a truly vibrant community worthy of considerable care. The high level of generosity, sharing, friendliness, and knowledge are but a few overall qualities found resident. On an individual basis our membership is blessed with a diversity and richness that may only be gleaned over time as one takes opportunities to become familiar with other contributors. John O'Brien has said it best, and please permit my paraphrasing: 'It was a wonderful feeling to walk into a pub that's several thousands of miles from your home and hearing someone you've never met say "That's John O'Brien!".' John went on to say that meeting so many Avalonians is what really makes attending RM\BF gigs so very special. And I concur, wholeheartedly. Somewhere in the ether is a post I sent to the list Saturday at 11:39am. Please disregard the contents as I was being rude with ensuing irritation at your 'back and forth' posts with Heather and Colleen. OK. Have we kissed and made-up? Best wishes, K.B.Porter ps - I'm glad you found my poetry, upon your second read, to be just as it was meant to be; laughable!!! ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Dec 2001 11:22:39 -0500 From: KB Porter Subject: Re: [AVALON] Seasons Greetings; Kudos "Expressions has wonderful service and got a nice package of 10 CDs to me within roughly 10 days -- wonderful (PM: Diamond Head, K-Scope, Primitive. I'm moved to write as I've been thinking back on what a year it's been for us Roxy fans, and for those of us on Avalon lucky enough to have caught the tour. And especially for those of us lucky enough to have been able to spend time with each other this year. I can say that my own Avalon gatherings, whether in London earlier this year, or during the tour this summer, were great times indeed. And I look forward to seeing folks again, and meeting other list members, in 2002, whether at Mr. Ferry's shows in support of the new album (a girl can dream, can't she?) or early next year (when I'll be in Ireland and returning to London! woohoo!). Just think, long before this group was even a virtual gleam in all of your eyes, Avalon probably could have afforded to hire RM to perform at just such a get-together. I recall the days when we couldn't afford the 1200 bucks to hire Frank Zappa and the Mothers to play at our college so we had to settle for Boz Skaggs! >Somewhere in the ether is a post I sent to the list Saturday at >11:39am. Laughable in contrast to cycling. I never laugh (much) at the thought of a sweet lady between her bedsheets and states of wakefulness, and the realms of fluid consciousness embodied thereon. To me, it embodies all of the "zipless f***" shallowness of the era, which, of course, is when this piece originated. I don't believe the words of it, and I don't think they rise above a certain platitudinousness (if this is a word), I believe the sentiment is shallow, and I find it hard to believe that BF believes these words either. Are you still cutting it on the street - Is this a reference to hooking? Why would this be the opening line? Does every sexual woman eventually become a prostitute? How insulting! Do you make savage love when you meet - every Penthouse reader's dream. And what does it mean? When she meets ... whom? It all seems so jarring and schizoid -- so non sequitur-ish -- In a bizarre way, so forced; kind of like Kubrick's phony Cruise-Kidman movie (I've already forgotten the name) which was built up to be so ground-breaking, so ... forbidden -- yet was really a sad, pale dilution of swinger parties average suburbanites have been enjoying for decades... The fact that this song is at least 22 years old doesn't matter... Mick Jagger is reported to have had more offers for sex than he could have ever entertained; I find it hard to believe that any man who actually has sex with women -- psychos or otherwise -- would ever phrase these sorts of bizarre pre-conditions on a sex partner. Men who actually have sex with women wouldn't talk about these things "Don't talk about it!!!" so why is this song *about* talking about it? As Tom Lehrer used to say, and I'm paraphrasing from faulty memory over 20 years or so: "Why *does* Hamlet go on so about his inability to communicate? Why can't he just shut up?" I guess the bottom line is the lyrics of this song strike me as being those of a man who wishes every woman he meets wanted him to "love her up madly" but has no real idea what such a woman would really think, or that such a woman would quickly lose that desire if the oaf actually vocalized this sort of arrogant guff! It's hard to understand how a man who could write "In Every Dream Home..." or "A Song For Europe" or any of a number of other genuinely evocative, and often highly sophisticated personal statements wrote these lyrics. music: Unlike the lyrics, the music doesn't seem dated; most of it anyway. It is quite haunting and gripping from the "And should we meet again" section until the end, although the horns are a bit jarring. The strings and bass are quite involving. The quality expected of BF's singing/stylization kicks in at the same point. I spent years "listening" to this song without actually putting the words together and enjoying it thoroughly. I'm getting older now so I'm certain the words will fade and I'll go back to being able to enjoy it without recalling how oddly disjointed the lyrics were. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Dec 2001 12:14:49 -0800 From: neeek@wgn.net Subject: Re: [AVALON] SOTW: "Love Me Madly Again" (another week) If we're talking lyrics, well, how can you match The Bride Stripped Bare?
