I need to know the band for the 1980 tour -- I believe it was Ferry, Manzo, Mackay, Dave Skinner, Alan Spenner... and who else? The drummer(s) would be nice to know. If anyone can get back to me off-list, that would be great, as I'm on the digest and am getting started in PhotoShop now. - --Grant (gmslegion@hotmail.com) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2001 11:15:04 -0800 From: neeek@wgn.net Subject: Re: [AVALON] Row, row, row your boat ... (was cycle life tostreet life) You're absolutely right, KB. I've had time to reflect and reread your followup with the dream and I quite enjoyed it afterwards. Possibly it's too late for this but I am sorry. I've had a cold/flu for 10 days and I have a 3.5 year old son who's enjoyed the same affliction with me, and a hard-working wife who's sick as well and perhaps it led to a somewhat shorter fuse than usual for me. In fact, after I reread your paragraph, I thought: "Boy, if I were coming across this now, I'd write something like: "That's the spirit, and perhaps begun discussing how my tomatoes did this past season..." So, I am sorry, and apologize to the group for my own teenage angst. I never want to argue with anyone, truly. Happy holidays to everyone again; and if you're driving, watch out for slightly mad, sentimental cyclists who aren't afraid to take a beating and come back for more, cause I want a new album for Christmas. She still plays her own acoustic treatment of Roxy's More Than This and tells a story of her meeting with Bryan Ferry, which I feel was told here once before. Hopefully, you'll forbear repetition as I think there's extra detail here. Before playing MTT, Lucy tells how she was here in the UK a year ago and did a radio interview for the R4 show Woman's Hour. Afterwards, she went to buy a mobile phone and a couple of hours later received a call saying that Bryan Ferry had been listening to the show ( ! ) and wondered if she'd consider singing for him in a studio in London. She told the audience that she had always been a Roxy fan so had no hesitation, other than the fact she had a bad cough/throat. They sent a car for her (which, she said, was novel) and an hour later, she was in a recording studio waiting for BF, who arrived minutes later. She was kicking herself for not having tracked down a particular US brand of cough sweet (Rekinor?) as she felt sure she was going to let BF down. But when they met, he handed her just such a cough drop (same brand). She said she was tongue tied about meeting her hero (a feeling some of us have been lucky enough to share I am sure) and asked him where he'd got them, to which Bryan replied, in an off-hand way, "From a chemist's". Lucy then had to go to Sheffield to do a gig and the next day went back to London to complete work on the song. When they met that day, Bryan put his hand in his pocket and surprised Lucy by producing a tin of the same brand cough drops as a present. She told the audience that she horrified herself by saying (out loud), "Thanks, but I can never use these, I think I must have them bronzed." She explained that she was so grateful to have them, but she didn't think she could use them as expected because they were the only proof she had that Bryan had thought about her in the two days they were apart. Swoon! There was more to come as she told this story on US radio when she returned to the States and the manufacturer of the cough drops heard the story, got in touch with her via her website www.lucykaplansky.com and sent her a care package, containing a life supply of the cough drops as a thank you for her product endorsement. !!!!! I met Lucy after the show, got CDs signed and asked her about the session. She said that while she had been told the BF album was due in September 2001, she didn't know now any more than any of us when we could really expect it. She confirmed that she had worked on self-penned original material. She enjoyed the experience (apart from the embarrassment and the low confidence due to the throat) and liked the music. She didn't know the title of said music, she couldn't remember it. She only did back-up vocals rather than anything more duet-moded. She hoped to record MTT at some point.
