Following on from the idea of Bryan Ferry covering "Moon River", I have compiled a list of my favourite 50s/60s/70s songs which I personally think would make an excellent album of cover versions by Bryan Ferry. 1. What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong 2. Let It Be Me - The Everly Brothers 3. (I've Been) Loving You A Little Too Long - Otis Redding 4. Always On My Mind - Elvis Presley 5. Without You - Nilsson 6. The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore - The Walker Brothers 7. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel 8. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye 9. Crying - Don McClean 10. Endlessly - Brook Benton 11. What Becomes of the Brokenhearted - Jimmy Ruffin 12. Out Of Time - Chris Farlowe 13. Nights In White Satin - The Moody Blues 14. Town Without Pity - Gene Pitney 15. Save The Last Dance For Me - The Drifters 16. Moon River - Danny Williams 17. This Old Heart Of Mine - The Isley Brothers 18. Drift Away - Dobie Gray 19. Easy - The Commodores 20. Everlasting Love - Love Affair 21. The First Cut Is The Deepest - P.P. Arnold 22. Wonderous Place - Billy Fury 23. Gentle On My Mind - Gene Campbell 24. Kentucky Rain - Elvis Presley 25. Edge Of Reality - Elvis Presley 26. Danny Boy - Trad. Well, here are a few I like. Of course, you may agree to differ. Following on, at a tangent, from this list: I would also like to see Bryan Ferry do an album of Ferry/Roxy classics re-recorded with a full orchestra and choir similar to the concept done by Chris de Burgh with his Beautiful Dreams album in 1995. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 08:27:08 EST From: OBrienFerry@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: Cover Versions??? Micheal, I also would love Bryan to revisit his own past, just the thought of him covering/reinterpreting some of his own songs would be a wonderful thing. Perhaps we could have a strand of suggested songs, heres my suggestions. 1: If There is Something 2: Beauty Queen 3: Strictly Confidential 4: Just like you 5: Mother of Pearl 6: Outof the Blue 7: Tryptich 8: Party Doll 9: This island Earth 10: To turn you on. As for some of your covers suggestions, "This old heart of mine" is an inspired choice but the thought of Bryan singing "Without You" or "Easy" fills me with an uneasy anticipation. I still think that Bryan doing a version of '[Old] Shep' would be a classic. A homage to his roots and all that. I await the chucking of virtual rotten tomatoes as we speak. If you are unfamiliar with this classic of sentimentality about one man and his dog, I'm sure you can be put in the picture by other subscribers. Point taken John, but it's a perfect project to be done whilst he agonises over his next set of lyrics. Ooooh - as #1 was just released (posthumously of course) by Joey Ramone, it needs to come off the list below immediately! Wouldn't want the Take Me to the River curse to befall BF a second time. Especially by yet another CBGB act.
