At one point, he would present prepared speeches prior to Frippertronics demonstrations, sparing no detail in explaining the evil he interpreted as "artist management". The EG situation was one that was interesting in an academic kind of way in that so many contractual arrangements could be sold on without the contractee's knowledge, tying them up so tight, they'd dare not draw breath for fear it would cost them some. Robert Fripp's ceaseless and awe-inspiring self-bootlegging is partly evidence of his belief in the music being made available and partly his case for making back some of the huge investment he made in his own freedom as a point of integrity and principle. He has said in his online diaries that he would not blame anyone for not following the same path, as it takes over the life and otherwise creative juices of the artist involved, but he felt so strongly he just went for it over a period of a decade or more of legal wrangling. Just think how long the next album by BF would take if he devoted himself to that kind of shenanigans! Sadly, any advice would be three decades too late. The deal selling EG and its assets as a company to Virgin is done and there is nothing anyone can do. It was a legal transaction that by-passed what had been thought was a water tight way of avoiding exactly this scenario. Just re-surfacing from what seems like months of work overload! I'm gradually catching up on all recent posts but haven't had a chance to contribute for weeks. I just wondered - has anyone else seen anything of VH1's "100 Greatest Albums of All Time?"? It's currently being broadcast all this week in the UK. Well, I'm a day behind, having taped each evening, but yesterday FYP was in at No 84. The programme featured snippets of the title track, Strand and Dreamhome, along with very brief interviews with Andy, Phil and Bryan. Putting aside my own views that the album should, of course, be much higher, it was good to see some recognition. And, much as I hate to return to the ticket price debate, I note that Rod Stewart is playing the very same UK arenas as Roxy did this year and ticket prices range from #34 (or a bargain #33.50 at Glasgow) to #42.50. Case for the defence (Roxy's that is) rested?
