But I do think it's more mature and more of a whole than the albums that preceeded it. It's kind of like the logical musical conclusion of the combination of the band and Ferry as front man and icon. Everything changes (and not necessarily for the better) after _Siren_. _Siren_ wasn't always my favorite Roxy album; that was either _Country Life_ or _Stranded_, depending on my mood. Then one day--5, 10, 15 years ago; I can't remember--I was listening and suddenly I Got It. (Not that there is of necessity anything To Get. Just that this album strikes a chord in some of us.) After _Siren_ everything is different. Roxy certainly isn't the same when _Manifesto_ is released and I'd say that with very few exceptions neither Roxy nor Ferry's solo work ever exhibits the same vulnerability and openness and the same attendant power or casts the same spell again. It's probably not all that surprising since it's probably neither possible nor desirable to live at that emotional fever pitch all the time. And that makes _Siren_ all the more wonderful to me. Something I have long wondered is, why on certain other forums is Fez a common nickname for Bryan? I assume it comes from a tabloid's tendency to shorten names to fit screaming headlines (e.g. Jacko for Michael Jackson). I've never liked it as it calls to mind Shriners in minicars. (Or Steely Dan, or exotic Arab locales.) I've never heard a Roxy/Ferry recording or live show that I would characterize as *bad*. My comments were regarding SF (one of my all-time faves) as a show opener. And from Jocelyn: > I remember being mesmerised by the disembodied voice pleading from off > stage, pure drama as a dissolute Ferry sloped on from stage left, eyes > pinned firmly to the stage floor as he made every lingering footstep count. I only saw four Siren tour shows but BF's entrance was just as heart-wrenching every time. I'm sure there were several at those shows that would have relished the opportunity to sooth those wounds.
