In retrospect Siren had a difficult birth, there was talk of Bryan not getting lyrics/vocals finished for the delivery of the album to Island, the supporting tour was finished by the time the album was released. Press interviews were with Manzaera & McKay, also Bryan was muttering about how difficult/time consuming it had become to write the words for the album, sleeping on the studio floor to get the vocals recorded by the deadline. So at 16 years old I didn't realise that this album was to become the soundtrack to my (love) life, from the lyrics on End of the line/Sentimental Fool/Could it happen to me? & Just Another High, I assumed this is how love should be, lost, forlorn, overtly romantic & treating each love affair as doomed at conception, what was I?, a Sentimental Fool. I might say it took me until my late 20's to take a more mature attitude to the whole thing. > love it? hate it? Sorry about the long email, but there's a few points here that need to be covered. 1) - I've just received "Perfect Peninsula" from Arnie to distribute in Australia. It's a fine audience recording from 1976, and is a very enjoyable single cd. (Thanks Arnie!!!). I can't for the life of me find the date and venue for it amongst my past emails, and it doesn't seem to be listed on Heather's site, so a reminder would be appreciated! (Thanks!). Anyway, if anyone in the Australasian area wants it, please email me at notdixon@ihug.com.au and we'll work out a trade/ B&P/whatever. 2) - I must apologise for taking a long time to send out the TMOQ discs for those that wanted them. Basically, work has been hell, my sister got married interstate (meaning a trip away), and I've had quite a personal crisis in my life in the last two weeks, but the discs are copied and ready to go. If anyone wants the discs above added to their lot, then please let me know, and I'll post them off together. I am sorry about the delay folks!!!! 3) - Well, a friend has lent me his turntable recently, and tonight I thought I'd dig out my old Roxy vinyl boots to transfer over to cd. I'm currently playing "The Return Of The Cool Guys" which is a radio/soundboard from the Manifesto tour. It's quite nice. Tracks are : Manifesto/Song For Europe/ Still Falls The Rain/ Dreamhome/ Love Is The Drug/ Editions Of You/ Re-make, Re-model/ Virginia Plain. The question is: does anyone know a date/venue for this one? Is it the same as the video? (Um...Manchester/Birmingham? can't remember..). 4) - Similarly, "Air Treatments" also puzzles me as to the source. It's listed as "Air Studios, London, Autumn 1973" but "Psalm" is quite clearly from the Bremen TV studios, as it has the false start that's on the various Video cds/ DVDs/videos from Germany that are going around. Street Life, Amazona, Pyjamarama #1 and Mother Of Pearl could be studio outtakes, but The Numberer and Pyjamarama#2 sound like the single versions to me. Does anyone have any more info on these? 5) - While I'm here, I may as well address the "Why Do You Think I'm A Funky Chick" question. To my ears the vinyl sounds slightly better, as the cd seems to be taken from an lp that drags fractionally, or that might be pressed ever-so-slightly off centre. The big problem is that the cd is from a scratched lp!! The source jumps during the lovely For Your Pleasure/ Diamond Head medley!!!! Arrrggghhhh! Thus, for me, the lp wins. Now, if I only had a copy of "Silk Circles" to compare them both to...... 6) - Gee, the medley of Stronger Through The Years with Ladytron on "Montroxy '79" is a nice performance. Just thought I'd throw that in before.... 7) - Spurred on by all this talk about Marilyn Cole recently on this list, I did some sniffing around the net, and found a link to her centrefold shot from 197-whatever. If anyone's interested (and I can find it again...) I can post the link here (for ...er...educational purposes, naturally...), but as there is nudity involved I thought that I had better check first and see if it's likely to offend anyone. It's rather tame by today's standards (and when compared to "Country Life" for that matter...) and I've personally found some of the language and discussions on the list (Avalon) recently more offensive, but one can't be too careful. I'll only post the link if no-one objects. (It IS Roxy-related, really!!!) 8) - The trivia test was great!!! Thanks everyone! - Doug NP " Surplus Sadness" lp .........er...date/venue anyone?
