The author, Tauna Le Marbe, traces the language used in The Day the Earth Stood Still to a number of possible root languages and attempts to decipher meanings. "Gort from Vorenus" is apparently a Latin proper name associated with a Centurian. Here is a transcription of the analysis of the message to Gort. Phonetic Sounds Word Origins Literal Translation - --------------------------------------------------------------------- KLA-TOO Bar-a-da KLAATU BARADA Stop Barbarism (I have) NiK-Toe NECTO death, bind The free translation given was "I die, repair me, do not retaliate." Here are the explanations of the translated words. barada- (latin) stop barbarism, (you) Klaatu- (Intercept) 'Harryb', Harry Bates, writer of "Farewell to the Master" (Anglo-Saxon) Commander (Code) harry (obsolete) to agitate to worry, to make a predatory incursion. Necto- (latin) necto-atus, death, kill, slay (French) necto, to bind, entwine (Phonetic Transposition Code) (plain text) bring back to life I know, I know...too much information. ;-) - -Rob At 01:47 AM 11/2/2001 -0800, you wrote: >Right again Dave! >The actual quote was "Gort, Klaatu berada nikto" which probably meant >something like "Rescue Me" ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2001 08:58:39 +0100 From: Daniel Atterbom Subject: Re: [AVALON] can we please get back to on-topic discussion? After having loved the first 801 Live I was disapointed with 801 Live at Manchester. I guess like the progressive rock version berrtter then the pop one. I also like Eno's voice, nothing wrong with Ainley's. I have not heard Hull and the re-released 801 Live has the whole concert, has it not? I for one think that any Roxy version of "Out of the Blue" is better then the Manchester version. It is not that Manchester is a bad live album, it is that the first 801 Live is, with Viva!, one of the best albums I have ever heard -- live or otherwise. I really like live albums. If that is beyond your ken, please do the rest of us a favor and take your whinging, name-calling, and complaints off-list and directly to the person you are having an issue with and spare everyone else the nonsense. What a hypocritical COW you are. Listen, when you decided that Eman's Penis is on 'topic on,' not once but twice on this list, I think you waive any friggin rights to not be called a ripe name or two etc. --Comeuppance, and you earned it. Fact of the matter is, I took my REQUEST TO YOU OFF LIST, POLITELY, TO STOP REFERRING TO ME IN ANY PERSONAL FASHION. TWICE! The fact that you continued to do so, painted you for the impossibly fucked up and twisted cunt you are. (Note I referred to you as a body part, rather than rudely referring to your body part, as you did mine.) Exactly where does referring to a strangers Penis fit into your idea of being classy? And let's just note again for the record, I asked you kindly off list not to refer to me personally on list again, AFTER YOU HAD REFERED TO MY PENIS TWICE, do you think you offered any kind of apology? No "Classy Colleen" (Emphasis on Quotes) did not offer an apology, she just tried to bully me off list. And according to all the reports I have, You Prefer to insult and attempt to embarass people on list. You have even brought off list communication on list to do it! Are you insane? Are fucking insane Colleen? You don't even follow your own suggest rules (see above). And then you try and act like some Miss Manners here? Incredible. You are pathetic. PATHETIC. You are OUTED. People know you are a bitch here. Anyone who wants to know when and where you referred to my Penis, just email. It absolutely happened. And now she's trying to act like the self appointed Miss Manners of the list, cos she can't handle it when someone blasts her loud and often, for her crap. What is truly amazing is, after all the people you have insulted, dogged, trashed and crapped on here....that you continue the charade. Catholic? I don't see you asking the forgiveness of any of the people who have hurt here. I will gladly email all the emails I have gotten from people you have hurt here to the list owner. The only possible explanation for you is that you are a truly fucked up and sick individual. ...You refer to my penis twice on this list, and you some how think you have the right to direct others about being on topic or off topic??? Let's make it remedial for you. When someone on a list, say....You? - --Goes off topic to refer to some stranger's penis, to be rude to strangers, to be cruel to strangers, to insult strangers as you do in the little game you play...that list is going to go off topic on occassion, and you are the cause. When I address you loud and in no uncertain terms here, it is above board and obvious, and in that it is honorable, there is no sneakiness about it -- unlike the shitty low blows and cruel pot shots you have taken at so many people here over the years. You don't own the list. You may flood it with posts, and fool a few idiots... Bit who died and made you meter maid? Isn't it about time you started making your shrink even richer? - --Get a friggin life you loser. You are the last person anyone here needs list advice or manners lessons from.
