NMC (New Millennium Communications) have been knocking around for a few years, initially as Golden Years and specialised in David Bowie related releases - Mick Ronson, Dana Gillespie, Ava Cherry and Bowie himself (they had some deal with Bowie's ex-manager Tony Defries). Since becoming NMC they have released many T.Rex CDs - BBC Sessions, US radio sessions, Electric Warrior session outtakes, live shows and even John's Children recordings. They've also put out stuff by Ronnie Laine, more Mick Ronson and the Yardbirds. More recently they've been plundering the Beat Club/Musikladen archives with releases from Blondie, Steve Harley, T.Rex and of course the Roxy stuff (Valentine and the other one, can't remember). Who knows what deal they've struck up with these broadcasters. Bowie certainly wasn't happy about them issuing his recordings (he blocked their planned 1996 release of his BBC sessions). Concerto is the same show as the Ranch Life Concert Classics cd which is a radio recording and presumably the station would own the exploitation rights, not Virgin. However, I would have thought that at least Virgin or the publishers (is it BMG these days?) would have to give some sort of clearance for release. I have actually spoken to the guy who co-ordinates their releases a few times over the years, the last time just before Valentine was released (early last year) and I asked him a few questions about the possibility other Roxy related projects. He told me that they had prepared masters for the release of their BBC Sessions, but the release was blocked at the last minute by Virgin who said they would be handling the project. I wonder if this was the same time that Phil made enquiries...? Things do seem to have gotten a bit rancourous around here lately, and it seems a bit of a waste to argue about Andrew Lloyd Weber when there are so many other things to argue about (ticket prices, picking on Ivor, Monqui Boys REAL identity, etc). As for ALW, let me make a hopefully definitive statement: I do not like his music particularly, and don't listen to it for fun. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. But he was responsible for an awful lot of people coming into the theatre who wouldn't otherwise be there, and that directly affects me and my community. In fact, the current production that I am lighting is providing ul time work for about 60 people, for as long as folks will pay for tickets. As a freelancer, it has provided me a fat paycheck and a chance to play with some very nice moving lights. Having to play Mozart or Phillip Glass in the car on the way home (to clear those insideous tunes out of my head) is a small price to pay. So if you don't like him, listen to something else. But please, no more argueing, okay? However, unbeknownst to wor Bry, this little known mining village is fabled for its love of reggae, and so when asked if they would like to play host to Roxy there the reply was, "Roxy? Nah. Dub? Aye!" Hence, gig off. It was pretty funny though. As for this whole stupid petty fighting amongst Avalonians, A quick glance and I simply trash the offensive posts. You can always expect certain women to have an attitude at certain times of the month. Then they pull out their thesaurus and try to appear intellectual. Don't take things so seriously and maybe you could meet the band someday too.. Like Mary and the Bros. Firmin. And yes, the ticket prices were outrageous! Some of us don't have the luxury of jetsetting around the globe. I saw two shows. Actually, one show would have been enough.
