And the Apollo was sold out. This Richard writes: It SO wasn't, you know. I was in the second row of the circle and there were about 400-500 empty seats up there throughout the show. I'm not exaggerating about the numbers. On either side of the circle, there were entire blocks of unsold seats left vacant throughout Rosalie Deighton's set and they only filled up when those in the 'cheaper' seats moved forward to fill them at the start of the Roxy set, leaving the same number empty at the very back. When I met up with the others afterwards, there were further reports of 10 seats empty downstairs in such and such a row and 5 seats empty here. These seats didn't all belong to members of The Amnesiac Roxy Association (TARA), you know. The seat holders didn't all forget their outing that night, they were UNSOLD. The box office MAY have reported the concert as being sold out IF the agencies had block booked all the seats and got stuck with them (as I know some agencies did). But at the end of the day, the promoters calculated that if Total Number minus 20% all pay #50, it will raise more money than if 100% all paid #40. At the end of the day, the concert was about 90% sold and the group will all have got their guaranteed money, you can depend on that. Whether Roxy insist on being paid upfront or, like Chuck Berry, come offstage at the precise time and grab their bag of cash from The Man on their way to the car is anyone's guess, but there was one reason why they did this gig. The fact we all revelled in it for a few months and had such a ball is more down to us... Cool, they may have been, but Bryan Ferry still advisedly avoids fads and chooses a pair of white trousers (+ blue shirt and brown brogue shoes) for the poster. The Levi models, some 19 years later, don't look anywhere near as cool. This is an official fold-out poster given to each fan attending the 1982 UK concerts. There is an official tie-in between Roxy Music and Levi's, a combined logo and pictures of bright, young things wearing the latest Levi's. Inside, there's a fold-out (4 x A4) full-color poster of the full band line-up for the 1982 tour. It's a great keepsake of the concert tour (if you were there) and would make a great addition to the collection of anyone late in discovering this great band.
