Has anyone even heard of a boot...source???? Cut Outs: David Werner, Imagination Quota, Whiz Kid... Searched for these forever in LA/SF record stores, no luck. Back in my old college town, found a record store, where the owner had a load of stuff in the basement that had never sold.... Picked up un-opened new copies for a song. Great score, gifted them to a number of David Werner fans from his 3rd and last LP. e _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2001 02:25:20 -0700 From: "Chris Turner" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Weird Ferry/Roxy CDs I have these, and some more besides. Sure the lyrics were a bit cheesy, but it gave it a sort of amateur dramatics feel. Don't forget they were written for a musical, not as pop or rock music in the coventional sense. It's funny to see how many of the actor have gone on to become very well know on UK TV in drama series such as Casualty and The Bill. It was a typical mid/late seventies low budget TV series that wasn't meant to be taken too seriously. I for one became interested in Mott because of Mackay's involvement. In fact i remember a story in mid '73 that said he would be leaving Roxy to join them due to his feelings on Eno being given the boot. Sure I bought and enjoyed All the Young Dudes because it was a great single, but it didn't make me want to go out and buy any other Mott record. Perhaps this was down to my view at the time of Bowie being over hyped. I thought he made some excellent singles, but found his albums unconvincing. To this day I'd quite happily listen to Ziggy Stardust, Aladinsane and the odd single while casting the rest of his ouput in the bin. I must admit that I did like the single Thursday's Child from a couple of years back. In religious terms I'd liken him to John the Baptist while Roxy were the massiah's, but each to their own. That's what makes music and this sort of discussion so enjoyable. Tom. n.p. Last mega bargain was the Roger Daltrey album with the Bryan Ferry song on it. It always surprised me that Ferry gave away "Going Strong". Did he lose a drinking bet with Daltrey? It's not like he has tons of songs laying around. At least Chris Spedding plays guitar on the album. I don't know, I kinda like it. Maybe I'll take the time to put it on CD... Best known bit-part actors in the series were Denis 'Kit Curran' Lawson, who was in Star Wars the same year (and is Ewen MacGregor's uncle...I love trivia), Billy Murray, who is that nasty Don Beech in The Bill, and Derek Thompson, who has been Charlie Fairhead in Casualty since before Jenner found a treatment for smallpox. Angela Bruce is a very familiar TV face now too. I'm not sure what she is singing, but I like what I'm hearing. Minimal instrumentation: A female keyboard player, two guys playing computers, one of which is running his hands on the hair of the other one and down his back ( amplified to pick up the sounds), and Bjork with her fingers taped ( I think to be amplified and fed into the strange cedar chest type of instrument in the background. Not bad. Okay, who amongst you has more info on this? I think I'm sorry now I did not see her when she was performing here last week. Now if Bjork ( a BIG artist here(?)) can arrange to make an appearance during her tour, then why could Roxy's management arranged for them to be on one for the shows while they were touring here? Just asking Jas Macy Gray- The ID, Lucinda Williams- Essence.. both great! ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2001 01:21:32 EDT From: AMeyersLD@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Rock Follies & PBS Colleen wrote: << I watched it too growing up, broadcast on public television in the US. It still amazes me that as a wild teenager, I would watch four hours of TV with my parents, and ENJOY it, once a week. On Channel 11 in Chicago we had Masterpiece Theatre (where we saw Danger UXB and Upstairs Downstairs) followed bt Monty Python, followed by the Prisoner, followed by an hour of things like "Agony" or "No, Honestly" or "Rock Follies". I don't watch very much TV anymore, but I still miss it late on Sundays.....
