I think Bryan sees the songs that he has written either for his own albums or Roxy as part of the same body of work. Most of the original songs on his solo albums are from when a time when Roxy were not working as a band and therefore the songs he wrote then can be seen to be an extension of what he was writing for Roxy. Even during Bryan’s 1977 tour when Roxy were not dead, merely dormant, Bryan did Love Is The Drug and Could It Happen To Me in his set > > I would imagine his next solo tour will have a similar divide. There are songs that he always plays, ie Avalon, Jealous Guy, Love Is The Drug, Do The Strand. These have been performed on every tour since he recorded these songs, (with the exception of Do The Strand on the ’77 tour). The set historically has been designed to play songs that interest Bryan enough to perform night after night, enough new stuff to promote the new album, what the fans want to hear and the hits. Songs like Love Is The Drug & Do The Strand work every time and Bryan enjoys playing them due to the audience reaction to them. I think if Bryan had to do a money no object one off show to 500 die-hard fans, I think the set would take on a different shape. > > Bete Noire 1988-89 > http://www.digitalroutes.co.uk:8080/1943 > > Mamouna 1994-95 > http://www.digitalroutes.co.uk:8080/2101 > > ATGB 1999-2000 > http://www.digitalroutes.co.uk:8080/1980 > > Regards > John O’Brien > > ___________________________________________________________________________ > The subliminable footer says: > To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: > unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 23:06:09 +0100 From: "Jane Collard" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Spin me round - ----- Original Message ----- From: john barry To: Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2001 9:03 PM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Spin me round John wrote: > I would be interested to know if any other members > have picked BF or RM music for any special events Well, I was keen to start the dancing at my wedding with "All I Want is You", but was told it had to be a slow and smoochy opener. I wrote them down after I came home from the concert . Obviously this is not the order he performed them in. But I tend to think chronologically and that helped me remember 1. Virginia Plain 2. Do the strand 3. Editions of you. 4.In every dream home a heartache 5. Out of the blue 6. Love is the drug 7. Lets stick together 8. Jealous Guy 9. Avalon 10. Slave to Love 11. Wasteland. 12. Windswept 12. I put a spell on you 13. NYC. 14.Your painted face 15.The 39 Steps Thats 8 Roxy and 7 Solo He performed more songs during ATGB tour in 99 because those 30's songs are so short. Otherwise the show would of lasted an hour. ...also unlike Mamouna he wasn't supporting a new album. He played 3 songs off of Mamouna when supporting that tour. Also considering it was the cd of original material that preceeded Mamouna I thought it was strange he skipped over Bete Noire altogether. My guess is Bryan isn't too fond of that album.
