Well, whatever anyone's perceptions of the tour (I've been off list for much of the duration), and whatever happens next - nothing will be like that. The endless hopes, expectations, fears, thrills'n'spills of the reunion was something I'd finally given up on; for me it outstripped my expectations and redefined 'pleasure'. I'm like to thank everyone I've encountered over the last few months - particularly those I've finally got to meet in the flesh (too many to name individually) - for making what would have been merely ecstatic, marvellous. Come on lets put the extras to bed, surely the extras were the last 4 dates to give us all the chance to do it 1 more time. yes the way it was put around by some was a bit naughty ?. but so what Roxy gave there all in those last 4 long to be remembered shows, Aftershow, there was only about 30 lucky people in the alley at the back of the Apollo. Paul Thompson came out first, plain blue t shirt and a smile that lit up the sky. a handful of signed drumsticks handed out. Chatted and posed for photographs with everyone. nice one Paul. Zev Katz & Julia Thornton, arrived next and were very happy to meet everyone, sign autographs, chat and pose for pictures, very nice people. they even took a stroll down at the end to meet the fans at the entrance. Lucy Wilkins appeared and looked stunning, Lucy was another whom had a tremendous smile and time for everyone, lots of photos and autographs. Phil Manzanera came out with grace and style. Black tux (or suit ?) white shirt and a glass of bubbly, looked like he enjoyed the show, smiled, chatted, signed everything put in front of him, and was great on photo opportunities, And Mackay, you could see the effort Any had made that night to please us all, Andy was magnificent, he looked tired and made his way to his car, a few lucky people managed to speak to Andy but sadly I missed him. Sarah Brown I just caught a glimpse of as she jumped into a sports car and zoomed of into the night, Chris Spedding sadly I did not see Chris but someone else may be able to say what happened. Bryan Ferry, save the best till last ?.after about 30 mins+ Bryan had not appeared. everyone started making there way to the stage door, awaiting there night in shinny armour ( well shiny suit maybe) Cameramen, photographers and of course the lucky ones whom were there all waiting. then it happened a tall well groomed gent in a long black coat and green scarf came walking out, Bryan Ferry has left the building. the lights came on the sky lit up with flash cameras, you could fell the buzz it was electric. Bryan spent 5 to 10 minutes in the doorway smiling, signing autographs and posing with the lucky few for photos. into the big dark people carrier and then whisked away, what an exit, IM sure others will be able to ad more IM sure I missed a lot but I was numbed by the experience. Now we must wait on the DVD and the much talked about Ferry tour in June ?. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Oct 2001 07:05:16 EDT From: Chandla911@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] How incredibly lucky From: roxylia@freemail.it () Subject: [AVALON] something to start with http://web.tiscali.it/cecilya/roxy/Milan/cecbry.jpg thanx Zen Cecilia in Venice, Italy - - ----------------------------------------------------- I can see why Bryan might be smiling, but how lucky that he didn't do the lemon sucking face he normally adopts! However, on the subject of Greatest Live Band In The World (a title that necessarily floats with time), I thought I would offer some context by listing my choices for various times. What I look for is great material, impeccably performed. Often there'll be a good stage show (effects, etc.) although that is secondary. And, of course, I didn't see the band at a particular time then I can't put forth an opinion. If I don't have a date at hand I may tie it to a particular tour in support of a particular album. Here goes: 1969 King Crimson 1969-70 The Who 1973-74 Genesis (tour documented by album "Live Genesis") 1974-76 Roxy Music ???? Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (tour in support of "The River") ???? The Police (tour in support of "Synchronicity") 199? Rush (tours between "A Show of Hands" and "Test for Echo") I'm sure if I gave it some more time I could come up with a few more but that's it for now. What do other list members think? I did a gig last week with a technician from Vari*Light (the folks who manufacture and lease the type of lights that Roxy had on tour) who had been on the lighting crew for the American part of the Roxy tour. Interesting guy-- we spent about eight hours working hard together, and he had some very interesting tales to tell. He did say that he had never heard of Roxy before the tour, but that he loved the show, and had become a fan for life. He said that the member of the band he got on with the most was Colin, primarily because his post was just offstage of Colin's position. "He's a much nicer guy than you'd think," he said, rather mysteriously. He said Bryan was "awesome, especially for an old guy," and that Bryan had given him a foul tasting cough drop once. He said that Phil was a real gentleman, who always said hello to the stagehands. "And what is it with the drummer? I mean, he's good and all, but he got HUGE applause every night..." Anyway, we spent a bit of time talking about the plot and how it was hung, how it was cued, etc. The anorak stuff of my profession. When he realised that I was a longtime fan, he asked a lot about how Roxy was lit "back in the day." Now, I remember the '83 tour lighting rig pretty well, as well as the "In Your Mind" tour light plot, and I think I can picture the rig from the secong leg of the Siren Tour. My question for the panel: Was Roxy as innovative with lighting early on as they were with everything else? Did they have a specific lighting designer in the early days, a lighting equivalent to Anthony Price? Anyone know? If your answer is as long and technical as this was, please contact me offline. Thanks! Hi Rod, It is my understanding that the "size" depends on the resolution of the scans. The higher the resolution, the larger the image seems - but higher res. gives a cleaner, sharper image when printed. (If I am incorrect about this, I'm sure someone here can give you a better answer.) People build CD covers based on a couple of consideration ... printer quality, internet connect speed, and skill with Desktop publishing software Some people do cover scans in high resolution - scanning them at 2, 3, even 4 times the actual image size. The idea behind that is that when you embed the image into a program you can print from - say, MS Word, you get a higher detail than you would if the image was 1 to 1 in size. These really big images are multi-megabyte in size - and take forever to download for modem users ... some images are smaller, download faster, and aren't quite as high resolution. They are probably fine for many people ... If you have a fast internet connection and a very high quality printer, grab the big images and embed them in MS Word or some Desktop publishing software. -= )-(eather =- >--------------------< hjames@thewebgal.com MCC NOVA's Website: http://www.mccnova.com/ Heather's WebGal Website: http://www.thewebgal.com/hjames/ My Roxy Music Pages: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ My Trades page: http://www.thewebgal.com/hjames/my-boots.html >------------------------------------------------------------------------< > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org]On Behalf Of > Rod LeCloux > Sent: Saturday, October 06, 2001 9:27 PM > To: avalon@smoe.org > Subject: [AVALON] OT: Cover scan question > > > With all the cover scans flying around recently with the current tour and > all I've got a question. I remember the Country Life tour having very good lighting, along with the RM logo at that time it seemed very professional, as Bryan introduced OOTB the stage was flooded with blue light. Siren tour I don't remember being anything special except for Jobson being lit from behind (!) for his intro to Whirlwind. I do remember the Manifesto set being lit quite darkly and having the worst set (a sort of pathetic Pyramid thingy, that was trying to look al huge and majestic but just looked silly). But I think the best designed set/lights were the F&B tour as the set was very inovative with the blinds and the lighting was very bright and almost white, along with BFs outfit at the time (I'm sure there are others on the list who will put this more eloquently). Which brings us to the Avalon tour which I thought was pretty awful Design/Set & Performance wise. I LOVED Bryans Mamouna set, that was brill!
