I can make the payment by PAYPAL or blank CDR's. Or trade against Pink Floyd/Roger Waters bootlegs. I can picture a few of them (I used to work not far from there at one time) and they're all pretty scuzzy. Infact most of Hammersmith is pretty grotty. Historically before Roxy gigs everyone used to meet in the upstairs bar at the Apollo (or Odeon as it was), clock each other and lean over the balcony eyeing up the talent on the way in. Kept us amused for hours. But if anyone has a pre-gig venue in mind, all suggestions welcomed. He can't remember what it's called except that it's something Irish (probably). Does that ring bells with anyone? It had been 3 months since my last show and I was more than ready for another dose. More or less the same set as previously (which was slightly disappointing as I was expecting some 'surprises'?). There was no South Downs wake-up call, MOP, or ITIS. Instead we got the lovely Yanick Etienne and Avalon and a very good IMHO version of Dance Away (minus striking match/cigarette pull!). The band were on very good form and the technical quality, as Chris Turner commented to me on the way out, has probably reached its zenith. Bryan looked a little tired early on and sounded like he had a bit of a cold (again!) but he soon caught the mood of the audience who were in fine form. Security was relaxed and the stage was stormed from the off , Reecey, Simon Galloway and Chris Turner leading the charge from their strategically positioned front-row seats! Phil and Andy were really enjoying themselves particularly Andy who seemed to reveal frequently unseen emotion. Paul was as ever Mr. Modest and its unforgivable that he's absent from the enormous 'last British shows' promotional posters, but as ever he got the biggest cheer of the night. I'm sure I even saw Chris Spedding smile at one point! (Must get a T-shirt done) Phil and Chris are a brilliant combo and when Andy joined the fray there were some great Roxy moments. I was hoping beyond hope that they'd spring a surprise after FYP and do another encore for a deserved and ecstatic audience, but sadly it was not to be. Great to meet so many Avalonians again, the lovely Jane Collard (sorry about your team Jane, there's only one 'West'!) and Collette Olive, Lee Sullivan and Wife, Steve Swift (Siren), Partner Sue and their daughter Katie (attending her first show in resplendent attire), Chris Turner, Johnny Reece, Ivor Canning, and last but certainly not least an extremely youthful and debonair Simon Galloway (got a spare ticket for Tuesday mate!). Overheard a Scottish Guy talking to Lee just before the concert who was saying '801' are touring in May/July and Bryan at Xmas 2002? Anyone confirm this or just pure speculation? Finally, I must give a mention to my ten-year old son Isaac who managed to emerge with a monogrammed Roxy/Phil Manzanera plectrum from the front of stage FYP scrum, to add to the one thrown to him by Zev at the Birmingham show. Meanwhile his sister, Isabella, who also attended her 2nd Roxy show of the tour (Dad's wallet has taken a hammering! Can it take any more....?) is, as I write, in voice training for future Roxy/Ferry tours! Best Wishes to all and bye for now. London calling............ I fear I've opened a Pandora's Box as when I came home today, my Roxy cd's were scattered about the floor & she was gyrating to "Out of the Blue". The trouble is she's now begging me to take her to Hammersmith with me on Tuesday, what can I say,? for her it's goodbye Muse, hello Roxy. What have I done!!!
