It's nice to see that somebody else (David Firmin) also seems to feel "The Explorers"(1985 LP) is underrated. Does anybody else feel like listing their least favourite RM/BF tracks? This 2 cd set is an audience bootleg of a November 1974 Berlin concert (anyone got the *exact* date?) of very fine quality. Young Master Edwin is playing up a storm and while I personally found the OOTB solo a tad disappointing (lots of sawwing and not quite the liftoff we expect on this masterwork), his work on ITIS (very reminiscent of VIVA!) and especially a violin-soaked "Re-Make/Re-Model" is more than adequate compensation. This baby also contains some bonus tracks recorded at a location so secret, even I don't know where it is. Requests for this item will be taken off-list for the next two weeks. If the demand is excessive I reserve the right to ask requestors to help with the tree. But coming back to both versions after not hearing either of them for a long time--years, maybe--I am surprised by how much I like the original _Country Life_ version. It's really gritty and impassioned and fierce, and while the LST version is more sensuous, as much of Ferry's solo work is, the CL version is much sexier. Thanks to KBP for the info on Casanova himself, and everyone who has taken a shot at the lyrics. Reading and listening to them again, I like how pointed lines like: > Now you're nothing > but second hand in glove with second rate now are, but I especially like how they contrast with the last verse: > I know my place is here with you > tonight > but not together There's a yearning quality to it in the end which marks it as one of Ferry's. Who wrote the majority of the tunes for the Explorers? I'm listening to the Complete Explorers (2 discs) and I'm really enjoying it. The songs are unconventional in the usual sense. Soul Fantasy, Black Gang Chine, Built for Speed, It Always Rains in Paradise, Ship of Fools and Robert Louis Stevenson are perfect examples. Lorelei (12" version) is so cool. You Go Up In Smoke is a hauntingly beautiful song. Two Worlds Apart is my favourite. I never get tired of these songs. I can best describe it as feel-good music. Just listen to Andy's great solo in Many Are The Ways. Even Paul Thompson has stated that Steve Gadd is a great drummer. And why was Arrow (with vocals by Leo Sayer) not released before this? A friend of mine paid $250 for a ticket to see Madonna at Phillips Arena here in Atlanta. Her seat was behind the stage and she could not see Madonna at all. People who were positioned so they could see the performers onstage were paying in the range of $350-500. Just to make sure everyone knows, Gene, who was kind enough to get me "Berlin Beauty Queens," has been working out UK, Euro and Australian trees for that item. So I will limit myself to US requests only. Sorry for any delay for you folks outside the US but help will be forthcoming.
