Excellent point. I think it's the principle of the pricing that is getting to folk after spending so much not only on this tour, but on the ATGB tour as well. No doubt some people bought tickets for the Glasgow gig thinking it was the final show, now they find out there are two more shows to go. I hear that they have been advertised as the final shows, well they used the same line when advertising Manchester and Glasgow. Who knows if these tickets go quick enough what chances of either another London gig or shows in other parts of the UK. It sems that the final shows tag is being used to describe a set of shows rather than an actual end to the tour or the band. Enjoy it while you can, Tom. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 21:41:48 -0500 From: "Judy Kaufman" Subject: [AVALON] [Avalon] OGWT DVD Apologies if this has been previously posted. Scott. Brideshead Revisited. Evelyn Waugh. On Biographies, they are fun to read, but often they are like a sophisticated People magazine. Not always of substance. Anyone else with guess on BF favorita authors? e >>>I'll have to think about the novels, but why not get us started with your thoughts on BF's favorite novels? Nigel Ticket Prices: Okay, where are the kind older Brits with Sterling to spare to help out the tasteful youngsters on this list, over there??? Someone step to the FORE! IF this is a last in a lifetime chance to see this band, the act of good will will be repaid, I am sure, many times over, over time. Roxy is one of the few bands who's music stands the test of time. Anyone who can, ought to treat someone else to a gig... Someone is liable to get stuck with an extra ticket anyway. e _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 21:33:09 -0700 (PDT) From: Maggie Curran Subject: [AVALON] Bryan's Bookshelf Eman and Martin have started the collection. Some can afford it , some clearly can not. I always used to wonder how people could afford the time and money to follow a football team ( or whatever) across the world. I saw one ATGB gig, have been a Ferry fan for decades and usually one show on a tour would have sufficed. So far I have seen 3 shows on the Roxy tour this year, with 2 more to come . Its not logical, so is it a hook, an addiction, an obsession. Last chance to see them play? Or is it, I fear, being on the Avalon mailing list that drives this hysteria ? Philip > Excellent point. Another thing that adds to the cost is the lack of notice, and that is something that should be in Roxy's control. I live on the North Coast of Scotland so even the Glasgow show is 6 hours drive away, Birmingham is closer to Glasgow than where I am. Going to somewhere like London can be relatively cheap if I know well in advance as booking a flight can cost around the same price as the Hammersmith tickets if I book 4-6 weeks before, any less time than that then the plain ticket can soon more than double in price. I have booked my concert tickets for Hammersmith just to ensure good seats but I don't know if I will be able to go because I have to organise work around that. By the time I do that and know for certain I am going it will be 2 weeks before the show and then the plane ticket is around #170. If I knew of the show 2 weeks ago, work would be arranged and I would be booking my plane ticket now at #60. So Roxy might not be responsible and in control of the price of tickets, but any little bit of help they could offer is not there. Even if we knew the city and date in advance then we could work around that. N.P.
