For those of us on this side of the pond, we've got only 30 days or so to figure out if we can afford a trans-Atlantic trip, get a reasonable fare, and get off from work on those dates. I'm not sure if we can do any of these things now; had these dates been announced a month earlier, we almost certainly could have made plans accordingly. My gut feeling is that we won't be making the trip now. Sigh. later, Miles ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 14:46:12 -0700 From: "Eman 97" Subject: [AVALON] Roxy London Prices You'd shudder to realize how much many of us have spent on Roxy Summer Sojourns.... Maybe we should have a contest. (Ed and Renate would win). I look at it this way: All that money I did not spend on concerts that were not given because the band was broken up....I spent now. But I can tell those who've never heard that they are fun to have. A little Roxy like. The vocalist, James Wraith, I really didn't think he was a Ferry rip-off, no more so than the guy from FYC, for that matter. There are several good songs, really catchy fun numbers. A few stick n my head to this day, and I catch myself blurting them out on occassion. The best thing about them, is expect nothing, just enjoy them for fun. It is a chance to hear a little of the old style Roxy Sound, and hear Roxy, without Bryan in charge. Kinda naive, but they have their own charm. e _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 15:17:07 -0700 From: David Firmin Subject: Re: [AVALON] So what's he been up to? We're sure that BF does in fact like Fitzgerald. Recently in an interview he said he'd just completed a biography of Bob Dylan. BF said he likes biographies and was going to buy one to take on the current tour. I'd guess he's read bios on Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Marilyn Monroe, Billie Holiday, etc., etc., etc. It might be interesting as a subset to gather opinions on whose bios Bryan has read. As for poets who influenced BF, we know Shakespeare is on his list. I'll have to think about the novels, but why not get us started with your thoughts on BF's favorite novels? My whole point being, a long time Roxy fan has a great appreciation to all kinds of music. Somewhat eccentric at times but that IS rock'n roll. Even now there are some contemporary sounds well worth listening to i.e Radiohead, Butthole Surfers, Los Lobos etc.... Jeff Ditto Jeff.
