WARNING long first post!! Well a big hello to everyone. I would like to say a huge thank you to all who participate on this list. I joined just before the tour was announced and believe me I would never have known about it here in New Zealand if I hadn't - so poorly has the tour been advertised on this side of the world. Roxy's first album was released the year before I was born so I never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to see them live. Most of my friends didn't understand what I was listening to they were busy with teenage obsessions and angst - Wham! Duran Duran and the Cure - what the hell was Roxy Music??? My art teacher, bless his heart, let me have full control of the stereo and I received outstanding marks thanks to my continual playing of Mother of Pearl over and over.... hee hee talk about inspiration!! (I was 16 at the time) I wanted to see Roxy in Melbourne but my best friend of 22 years - we met when we were 5 - could only make the Sydney gig so SYDNEY it was. I booked us into a 5 star hotel and prepared for a lavish and decadent retreat. The duty free alcohol did not go to waste...We arrived on the 10th of August and had to wait days for the concert .Sydney was perfect - hot and pulsating with life. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I was racked with fear and joy. Would they measure up? Would the crowd measure up? Would I be close enough to the action.... It was very traumatic... Finally the day arrived and we went down to the venue just as the doors were opening. The merchandise had only just hit the floor. I managed to spend $180 Australian on 3 T-shirts, a programme and a set of badges. I single-handedly managed to fund Andy's pension... ;) with a quick flick of the wrist there it was the answer to any girl's dream... CREDIT!! The crowd was a great eclectic mix of oldies and younger folk - we were in a whole row of twentysomethings with a couple of fortysomethings thrown in at the end... When that familiar tinkle of glasses and conversation filtered through the sound system I thought I was dreaming I couldn't believe that I was actually there, I couldn't believe that THEY were actually there... I just screamed my head off making up for all those years and concerts I missed. It was a fantastic moment - Bryan slinked his way from the keyboard and waved those long arms in the air, lights were flashing - it was heaven. There was however one big disappointment and that was the damn seating arrangements - I felt like those geeks in the Rainbow Room - I was forced to sit - kept in my place by big, huge, revolting Aussie bouncers/thugs - "excuse me mam but please stay in your seat.. " BLAH BLAH How BORING! People just wanted to get up and dance - what were the organisers thinking?? Has this been a big problem throughout the rest of the tour?? Anyway I refused to let it bother me at the time and just let myself be submerged by the music and the whole experience of Roxy Music. IT ROCKED!! I have to admit to some tears during A Song for Europe and MOP... Once the crowd got into it so did the band and the whole event just went up a gear - The last thing Bryan said was "you've been a great audience" and that was it- the end of FYP and TGPT was left alone to finally say goodbye...I still can't believe it is over. So thanks for reading - hopefully I will be able to make a contribution here and there but I am at work and i am being naughty... so forgive me if i say anything silly - i am in a bit of a rush etc.. Thanks Kamaya ps like I always say...never trust a raven wearing opals... ciao for now! =============================================================== WARNING This message may contain information that is confidential and may be subject to the provisions of section 61A of the Police Act 1958, which creates an offence to have unlawful possession of Police documents. For Your Pleasure, the song, hypnotized me from the moment I first heard it in '73. It still has the same effect on me today. Whoever came up with the idea of ending each show with that song, with the band members leaving the stage one by one, is a true visionary. While Manzo's work on the early Roxy recordings is revolutionary, my favorite Manzanera moment is on Eno's "Baby's On Fire".
