I don't think that "theaudience" really had anything in common with Blondie or The Pretenders. It was mentioned in music papers frequently that Sophie was a younger Chrissie but at that time Sophie hadn't even heard a Pretenders record ! Only one of their records sounds even vaguely like a Pretenders record to me. It really annoys me when bands are labelled like this. The band weren't dropped because Billy left the band either. It was all based on the sales of the first album and it didn't sell enough. End of story. They had enough material for a second album , all without Billy Reeves' "creative talent" and it was very good, if a little different to the previous stuff. They did have what it takes to carry on with another record company but they decided to go their seperate ways. They wanted to make it with a top record company rather than "get by" with a smaller label. Their choice. All are now doing their own thing with various new bands they have formed. I know Billy and Sophie and what happened behind the scenes and alot of it was very unfair and unjust. By the way, Janet Ellis wasn't sacked for being pregnant.
