From my experience with modern stealth recordings, I think this one is excellent. It's a little boomy at the bottom and a little harsh at the top end, but that reflects the sound in the room that night. I tried equalising away the faults without much success, then discovered that the soundman had applied about the same eq by near the end of the show... You'll hear the mix change, what took so long? Don't mean to quibble, there were a LOT of musicians on stage. What did people think of sound on the rest of the tour? At any rate, the sound on these cds is full and rich, no doubt of that, loud and pleasing and 21'st Century. And hardly any crowd noise... So the show is burned onto two cds, no filler. I'd like help with the distribution. Are there 3 - 5 of you willing to make more copies and offer them up to Avalonians? And can someone make a cd cover- perhaps from the photos that Kelly put on her website? I'll send you a freebie... I suppose I should ask for both US and UK / European distributors? Contact me off-list and I'll arrange to send you copies, setlists, etc. I'm excited to help spread a quality recording more widely. Come and get it! Please respond off-list, I tend to get behind on my digests sometimes... Source : Sound Professional Stealth Cardiod mics, dunno the model number, directly into my Sony M100 Dat machine. I'm busy on many other listservers so have been only lurking since the Mpls show last week. Gosh, I haven't had so much RM going through my head for 20 years, what fun! But I wanted to post a few comments on the show, and to a few others who emailed me - Hi, Pete and Susan and Kelly, I'll write to you soon... Kelly, fya, my friend's name in the photo is Steve Fine, it was his first RM show and he is only a casual listener who came with my spare ticket - and had a blast, duh. Kelly, FABULOUS work with the photos! Several of those will make excellent additions to the cover of the cds... Now playing: the hum of my CD burner burning the first copies of the cd of the Mpls show. Offer in immediate next posting... In defense of the Mpls crowd, we were RESPECTFUL if reserved. Y'all will truly appreciate the quieter numbers on the cd because everyone listened so carefully. Sure, I wish we'd all danced more, but we were appreciatively quiet (and exhausted and heatstroked) rather than lame, c'mon guys, we're not all Avalonians seeing their Dreamhome for the first time. At $50 plus per ticket I'm sure most folks were there on purpose and having a good time... And I invite you to a hot sweaty bar dancefloor some time to catch some Mpls groove energy... I loved the show - how not? - though I wished for better sound, and perhaps fewer musicians on stage - it all got a little cluttered, sonicly and visually. I am a deep fan of the earlier RM, having grown up with them, but I must admit that some of the later songs like Heart Still Beating, Tara and Jealous Guy were highlights. I particularly liked the few places where the music opened up a little - the duet between Chris and Sarah, one or two blazing duels between Chris and Phil. I heard a boot from 1979 (thanks, Pete S) and thought that the music breathed a lot more back then. But what can one truly expect from a band reforming after 17 years under these circumstances? They played and sang their hearts out, Lucy practicaly lighting up her corner of the stage with her efforts, Bryan still with fine pipes and more charismatic than ever, lots of tweedles and bleats and whooshes, the guitarists comfortably sharing their lines... Wow. Only my second show, last show in Sydney in 1975, who's got THAT on boot? Hah. We had a great time meeting a few Avolonians, and I've enjoyed all your comments here. Kelly, congrats again on photographic proof of your meeting with His Nibbs. And I don't know about Manzanera being a hottie (I liked him better with long hair...) but his music sure gets me in the mood. Hey, out there, any other serious Manzanera / Quiet Sun / Random Hold kinds of freaks on this list? Or do I have to find another place to score old 801 boots? Hey, after this tour is over (or at least the US portion) perhaps we can use this list to compile and compare boots, maybe even make our own RM Live in US 2001 discs. That might help keep the excitement alive for a while, otherwise you are all headed for a serious case of Post Tour Depression... The US pressing does have Kenton on the inner sleeve. If you are going to pay as much as $35 for a copy, you should look to get the promo version, which has a sticker on the front cover, and a printed promo insert inside the sleeve. Expect a minimum of excellent mint quality too. The catalogue number is Reprise MS-2114. I wouldn't pay more than $20 to 25 for even a mint non-promo. Not sure what the reviewer mistook as MTT--I don't recall that particular gem being played at Concord. Of course, I second-hand smoked quite a bit of weed (it seemed everyone around me was enjoying the stuff), so my recollection may be, appropriately, foggy ... Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the gathering of Avalonians at Walnut Creek, nor was I able to linger after the show to meet list- or band-members, but I trust a good time was had by all. I chatted with the married couple next to me, who apparently paid so much for their tickets on ebay that they didn't want to tell me what it cost them to see the show. But they had no regrets. Curious moment of the evening (I may have missed exactly what happened, perhaps others who were in attendance can clarify): after a pause between songs, TGPT apparently false-started (perhaps misreading his setlist), ripping into a thunderous beat, causing Ferry to turn around and wave him to stop, bringing a chuckle from the band. They then resumed the show with one of the slower numbers (either Oh Yeah or Dance Away? Memory fails ... ). Rants? The mix seemed a bit off at times, I sometimes couldn't quite hear Lucy or Andy well enough. And then there was the dancing lady in the rows ahead, wearing the headdress/turban rivaling those worn by the stage girls, obstructing people's views ... but I at least applaud her enthusiasm. And they played Mother of Pearl! That alone almost would have been enough for me ...
