I clocked it at 100 minutes. That counts the VERY few minutes between the end of the main set and the first encore. I can't say precisely how long that little interlude was, as I was just happening to discover there was another Avalonian sitting in front of me, but it was certainly no longer than 5 minutes, and maybe not even that. So, it was probably at least a 95 minute show. Reading some of the accounts of Boston and Minneapolis, it sounds like we got a better show than Boston and a longer one than Minneapolis (viva Virginia Plain!). Again I say, I would be pleased if Chicago is the one they release on DVD. Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 19:56:36 EDT From: Helchat@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] The Chicago show Nice insight, Jeff. Thanks, coming from someone else who also got into Roxy post break-up. I had a question however: how long was the show? This was the final night of a 3-in-a-row (Clarkston, Rosemont, Minneapolis) and guess what? They pulled out all the stops. Phil was amazing on Ladytron, Lucy brought tears to my eyes on her solo at the end of Out of The Blue. Plus: 1. Yeah, Andy still looks like he's in traction but who cares he played great! Oh, and he does have quite a blank expression on his face most of the time. 2. Spedding was brilliant on "While My Heart Is Still Beating", great solo at the end. I think he anchored most of the songs with his picking. 3. Bryan was totally engaged on every number!! Trust me a was in row 17 and could see his facial expressions. He definately was NOT going through the motions. 4. Crowd stood for last 3 or 4 songs. 5. Rufus Wainright-- not as bad as I was lead to believe... Shoot gotta go, baby's crying.... More later... Concord Tickets for sale Help! Last minute plan changes prevent me from attending Roxy in Concord. Instead I will be attending LA on Tuesday, 8/7/01. I have 4 tickets for the Chronicle Pavilion in Concord, CA available for 8/5/2001. My cost was $88.75 apiece with the Ticketmaster charge. They are located in Section 101, Row S, Seats 7-10. Obviously I would like to recoup my cost, but I am willing to entertain any reasonable offers at this late date. I am willing to overnight COD UPS and pay charges to do so. Please contact me off list jbarbanell@earthlink.net if you can help me out. Thanks. Great review of Dublin too, though they did refer to Lucy as 'Wincey Wilkins'. Slap on the wrist ! Only just picked the mag up today, whilst hunting for Vinyl faves in Greenwich Village, on a 'destroy my credit card' type situation, which I achieved, with flying colours. Found a Shangri-las orig first pressing 1966 LP that I have wanted for ages - got every track elsewhere - but damn well wanted it anyway, trouble was, it was 150 dollars. (Cheaper than it should have been - have seen this one go for over 200 quid before). Got the price down to 100. Sold ! - to the mug in the Roxy Music T-Shirt. No Roxy rarities on view, of any significance (so far) but am back in NYC on Friday, so will have another look. Lovely Beatles bootleg CDs, many I'd never seen - superb sound quality though - heard a few in the store. They started at 50 dollars, going upwards to 300. Yikes ! Where's that lottery win when you need it ? Bootlegs everywhere - no Roxy !, but still hunting... Reecey... Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! I'd love to read them. Especially any New York papers. The reviews in both the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times were very positive and both voiced the same concern that I had that the Allstate was not the proper venue for them. 2 nights at either the Chicago or Ford Theatre would have so much more suitable and elegant. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 00:25:02 -0500 From: "Judy Kaufman" Subject: Re: [AVALON] what about Chicago?? Hey Will, If you are talking about the Roxy show at the Riviera Theatre, November 29, 1975 - I was at the other end of your row then. Facing the stage the far left section, first row, last seat on the inner aisle. So why didn't you say hello?
