It's a distinction I picked up while reading a history book on the matter. One is not to view history from our standpoint, but from the view at the time. Case in point: McCarthyism was the political correctness of the early 50's the in the US. Another case in point, to stay on topic, Roxy Music was a smashing success in the UK and in Sweden. More so then in any other countries. What does that say about Roxy Music and UK and Sweden 1972 to 1983? First, I never cared if someone is gay. Not at all. In fact, I don't care at all about anyone's sexual orientation or practices. That stuff should always be private. ....Even if you are President of the USA. In the early 70's with Bowie being so OUT, and using it to make publicity, it was fairly common and accepted to have a little mystery about your sexuality....in rock and roll. JAPAN's David Sylvian actually let loose in an interview that every member of the band had had an affair with a man except one. Which I believe was total bullshit, that he just said to try and drum up some extra press or controversy. I think he even later admitted to that...when he got classier by moving from his Bowie affectation, to his Ferry influence. Bowie however, was actually threatened, jealous of Japan, refused to speak of them when asked in interviews, and I believe actually refused to meet with them one time when it was proposed when they were in the same vacinity. Back to Ferry, I think he never let there be any confusion, other than to laughingly admit that some might make that mistake (of wondering if he was Gay because of all his Gay friends)(I read him say that in an interview...) But he always brushed off the suggestion, reminding that there was a larger contingent of gay people in the fashion and art worlds that he spent so much time in. I always took him at his word. It is too his credit that he took the suggestion with good humor. More interestingly, I wonder about Ferry's politics..? I wouldn't be shocked if he was conservative, while have lived a very liberal life. e _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 16:28:39 EDT From: InterEireann@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Bry is French That conversation ( the women in the Camden loos )sounds like something from The Sopranos ( between Tony and Pauli about Czechs and Chechnyans). Yes! I am a long-time fan (saw them in '75? at the Guthrie!!) driving with my family from Madison and staying downtown. Let's hope that there is shift in the playlist and MOP and others come back or are added. In any case, my wife and I are really looking forward to this! ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 22:39:46 EDT From: Etherealana@cs.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] A gay old time ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2001 22:41:32 EDT From: Etherealana@cs.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] A gay old time That's funny, I also thought that of my husband! This whole discussion is so laughable I can't even work up a mad-on. The man has 4, yes FOUR, sons. Gay? I don't even see how anyone could give it a second thought. The list has been gutter-minded lately, so with that in mind and considering how long some here have been fans, I would venture to say that someone here or a friend/acquaintance of someone here probably has *intimate* knowledge to the contrary of this whole gay theory. Who cares what a person is, would it change your mind about Ferry if you found out he was gay? Don't think so. It doesn't matter if he should have three tits or three penis's. that is strickly his business. What he does or anyone else does privately is one's own business. Marlana.........................
