Imho, Roxy would have done everybody a favor if they had expanded the setlist in the US. I've checked a bit, SimonG's postings of setlist and various bootleg lists tells the story of rather fixed setlists during Roxy's tours. This not being the case with Ferry's ATGB tour, right? Stay tuned, I am going to check about the Copenhagen concert when the representative at Virgin's Stockholm office returns from his vacation next week. Otherwise I agree with Chris Turner who wrote: "I'm keeping my 'Danish back-on' joke in reserve though, just in case..." I have no expectations whatsoever for Roxy. Hi all, Saw the show in Atlanta last night, and a great show it was! It was identical to the July 21 Boston show(just refer to that review for the setlist), which I also had the pleasure of seeing. In fact, even the start and end times were virtual identical. Attending a show at Chastain Park Amphitheatre was, unfortunately, just as I knew it would be. People talking during the show and no one getting off their asses to show any enthusiam for the band. But as was the case in Boston, my friend and I said screw the losers who don't want to really get into the show and danced anyway and if people bitched, it was their problem. I just don't believe that the behavior of true fans such as myself and others should be dictated by the people who are there just to socialize and be part of the rich crowd. Like it or not, much to my dismay, this is the way it will always be at Chastain, an otherwise beutiful venue. Anyway, for whatever reason, even though MOP had been re-introduced in New York, it was dropped again in Atlanta. There were the same missing verses from Street Life and Both Ends Burning, but otherwise the show rocked out. Just like in Boston, I was a sweaty mess by the end of the show. The more I've seen them, the more hungry I get to see them again. I would be more inclined to hop a plane to one more show if they would have been jumbling the songs around more, but oh, well! I even had a dream last night that I met Bryan Ferry! I'm very jealous of the folks on the list that really have met the man. But then again, I wouldn't know what the hell to say if I ever did run into him somewhere. Well, I have my $20 program(which I know I would have regretted not buying if I wouldn't have bought it) and my ticket stubs as souveniers and some great memories to keep for the rest of my life. Even if they didn't do every song I would love to have heard, I'll know I just attended two of my favorite concerts of all time. I saw Roxy Music(I saw them in '83, but wasn't the fan I am now)! Perhaps it was fixed for Atlanta (I'm assuming Yanick turned up for the 2nd night in NY as well?). I made the journey to the low-lands of Atlanta and immediately began sweating my ass off and didn`t stop until I hit my county line early this morning. I arrived early yesterday afternoon and checked into the first motel I came to and by the time I got situated and went shopping for all of the stuff I forgot to bring, it was time to meet the gang at Fellini's. Funny how people never look the way you picture them. Contrary to popular belief: Grant Goggans is NOT Chinese, both Miles Goosens and Diane Duesenbury are much taller than they sound in their e-mails and Scott Foster isn`t a hairy, tattooed biker. Another fellow named Jeff (?) showed up and Maggie Curren and Keith Shockley were most pleasant. We decided to head for Chastine about 6:30 and just as Scott and I were heading to our cars, we were approached by some huge buffet-buster of a guy who over heard us talking Roxy bootlegs and asked for info on how to get some. He was obviously going to the show but was unaware of the Avalon list and not knowing who this guy *really* was, I of course gave him a bogus e-mail address.....I think it was Arnie`s. I parked in what I thought was a primo spot surrounded by scalpers waving massive numbers of tickets, but I soon realized I had to walk a mile...up hill...around the perimeter fence to the entrance and by the time I found my seat, I squirting sweat and there wasn`t even the slightest hint of a breeze. All in all, though, Chastine Park is a fine venue if you don`t mind the occasional jet fly-by and all of the candles lit tables gave it a classy feel. We didn`t have candles on our table, but we were lucky enough to be seated behind people who sprung for cheap synthetic-wax candles that didn`t so much burn in the traditional sense, but were on fire billowing black sooty smoke in our faces. At this point sweat was cascading down my head and just as we`re beginning to relax, here comes that buffet-buster guy. He`s sitting a couple rows in front of us but about 10 seats down. He`s constantly up and down and everytime he passed by we kind of ducked down to avoid him. Roxy hit the stage about 9:11 and, well, what can I say? I`m not much on flowery descriptions so I`ll leave that up to others. What I can say is that after 6 years on this list and um-teen-thousand e-mails, last night made it all worth while, even despite one sad point during the show when I thought we were going to have to kick the s**t out of a couple of inconsiderate red-necks. But after some crude remarks and vague threats they fled their table and didn`t return. But the band was top-notch, the sound was great and even the least favorite songs sounded fresh and powerful and I actually enjoyed them. The dancing girls seemed out of place but was easily overlooked because everyone honestly looked like they were having a good time, were in *great* spirits and interacted well with the audience. Manzanera was just awesome....going wild for the Ladytron solo, the highlight of the show for me and what a voice Yannick has. Incredible! After the show we said our good byes and went our separate ways. I hiked back to my car and poured sweat all the way back to the motel where I got a few hours sleep then got up at 3:30 am and poured sweat all the way back home. I`m not sure if we`ll ever see each other again, but I enjoyed my too short time with everyone and I know this special event will remain with us forever. Now we're getting lots of reviews of great shows and fantastic stories about Avalonians that have met each other at gigs etc..Quite rightly so... Just goes to prove that even when songs are dropped, and maybe the set list length is shorter than may be expected, it's all irrelevant...when Roxy play live it's pure Magic and we all walk away with experiences that we'll remember for a long time Aleks Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Sylvian >>I thought Sylvian would have made the perfect vocalist for King Crimson. I loved the Sylvian/Fripp album, but the songwriting was frequently a little less challenging than what I'm used to from KC albums. I'd really love to have heard Sylvian's vocals on a full-blown King Crimson album. FWIW, I'd love to hear Bryan and Fripp together. I think they're both capable of (vastly different types of) bittersweet emoting. Then you will be thrilled to know that Fripp officially offered Sylvian the lead singer position in a reformed KC. Which sylvian promptly turned down. One assumes because he didn't want, again, the fame. Sylvian has since made some quotes that his collaboration with Fripp, those two CD's wasn't that satisfying. At the time of course, he said he liked the edge. And I believe it was one of the only ways he could make music at the time. Nevertheless, Fripp doesn't do it for me, too many exscursions into guitar tech wanking without a real emotional purpose, imo. He lacks the grace of Ferry or Fripp. I think Ferry would have been a dreadful KC lead singer, and what's more it would have robbed us of the birth of Roxy Music perhaps. e _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 20:45:23 +0100 From: "A.L. That may be true, and I'm flattered, but I would like to think that I also always stand up for the right of everyone to speak freely. It's not possible--nor is it desirable, in my opinion--to police the list and weed out topics that are distasteful to you. If something is truly over the line, the list members generally make short work of that topic. But you don't take a lead from me in badgering people onlist about things unrelated to the substance of an on-topic conversation for that is not my style at all. None of us can keep others from writing things we find stupid, inane, provocative, disgusting, or rude. Nor should we (although hope springs eternal that people think before they write). In all honestly Niki I find your approach much more offensive than the posts you object to. I invite you to contribute more to this list than harangues (which should be sent privately, and not as onlist conversation). I know you mean well Niki, but you can't make people only say what you want them to say. Personally I very much like the different opinions on this list, even if I don't always agree with them.
