CC actually started life as Lover To The Dawn, more of a Simon and Garfunekl type love song. It's actually a less than veiled attack on the hippy movement, and in particular Bowie's experience with the Beckenham Arts Lab - "we used him, we let him use his powers, we let him fill our needs, now we are strong" - Bowie admits that as much as the Kent hippies used him, Bowie used them to further his career. Cygnet Committee is a song of despair and bleakness, Psalm a song of hope. And both were listened to yesterday without even realising that this reference had been made. Spooky. Kinda. SimonG >>> "terrypaulrigz8c" 07/15 4:41 pm >>> Bowies "The Cygnet Committee" always reminded me of "Psalm", in the way it's strutured and builds and although does not directly come across as a religeous song, it has many religeous references. Those 2 cds of 1969 certainly rank right up there (as well as the bootlegs Live at Cole Ave-if anyone's ever heard them-they are some of the best bootlegs of any group). Back on the Roxy Road (From the NY Daily News - 7/16/01 Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry and his British art-rock band are about to embark on a world tour their first in 18 years. Ferry says he wanted to get back with his old bandmates Andy MacKay and Phil Manzanera (Brian Eno quit in 1973) after realizing how much fans missed and loved the group. "I was on tour for so many dates, and I was really enjoying it," says Ferry about his solo gigs last year. "As I was doing the Roxy songs, I did sense an incredible warmth from the audience. And they still sounded quite fresh to me, actually. People had obviously asked me over the years to do a Roxy tour, but this time, the reasons for doing it are much better than not doing it." For the Roxy Music reunion, fans can count on hearing their favorite hits, adds Ferry in his interview with the August issue of W magazine. "Doing a tour of this nature, you feel obliged to trot out the songs the audience really has a feeling for," he says. "The number of people who come up to me and say, 'Oh, we got married to "Avalon"' or 'We called our daughter Avalon' ... We'd get stoned to death if we didn't do those songs." ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 18:51:58 +0100 From: "Niki H" Subject: [AVALON] penthouse interview I can't wait for the next instalment of that interview, please dark images, whoever you are, send it as soon as possible.unfortunatly you say half of it is missing,is there any way we can found it back? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 19:33:09 +0100 From: "terrypaulrigz8c" Subject: Re: [AVALON] rhapsody devine Philip, I am a huge RM/BF fan but they/he have repeated themselves. ATAP was quoted as a deluxe version of TFT, there is a direct line from the title track from TFT to Smoke gets in your eyes to ATGB, the West side of Manifesto became the blueprint for F&B, which was then honed down to perfection on Avalon. B&G has been described by BF as "the son of Avalon".
