However, having seen Mr Ferry`s superb live delivery on the compilation vids I have rediscovered it, (but only this live version) and as stated by Guy and others quite the highlight. I also find it very humorous. The whole performance complete with tambourine bashing etc, reminds me of an extended advert for your local Temperance Society. Hi Tri-Tri, and thanks for your comments re the Vids. We're all pretty pleased with most of the finished product, but I'll be glad if I don't see another of those Vids for quite a while ! A few of us have 'lived it' for quite a time, tweaking bits here, changing something there, and spending many hours trying to get the Covers to be very 'Roxy', and swearing at Printers to get the inserts to come out properly, not to mention the endless weekends, many months ago, of our little crew spent in a Video edit suite, doing a splendid job of getting it all together, after ploughing through around 200 odd hours of endless repeats of mostly the same material - trying to get the best bits extracted, edited, and mixed. A special mention too, to the 14 'who shall be nameless' Video clip contributors to this insane project, which started over a year ago. When we first spoke about it - the talk was of the ATGB Tour - not about Roxy Music. Funny how things change so quickly, isn't it ? We're all glad it's out there now though, it took a hell of a lot longer than any of us thought - sincere apologies for that - but we got there in the end, as we always do. Many, many thanks to everyone who has emailed me offlist with comments on the Vids - much appreciated, and we (a few of us - though the others like to remain silent !) are really pleased with the reaction. We did run off a few extra copies - as we knew there would be late orders (not many extra copies though) and we'll see if anyone wants them on our return to normality in August. Then that'll be it. For any latecomers wishing to suddenly order - sorry - orders are now closed - as a few of us are about to descend on the USA for some Roxy nights on the east coast, and we won't be here - I leave in just a few hours, spending time with friends in NJ until the mayhem starts again. I've been putting off having a proper holiday for over 2 years (somehow, Tours kept getting in the way !) - but as the greatest Band in the World, Roxy Music, are back, something made me decide that I should go for it this time, can you blame me ? Thank heaven for credit cards. Someone mentioned on here the other day about the Cilla duet clip - and whether it would make Bryan 'squirm' if he saw it now. Hey, it makes me squirm every time I set eyes on it. I remember, months ago, the first time I showed the clip to our own Mr. Roxyrama, Chris T. - he was peering at it through his hands, which were clasped over his face, in disbelief. Wonderful stuff, in a tacky way. I can almost see it now - loads of people watching that, doing exactly the same thing. Ok, must finish and organise my packing. Following a chat with friends Stateside earlier this evening, looks like I'm Nashville-bound for a few days as an extra visit whilst on hols, so I'm now packing extra tubes of Country Music repellant cream. Will see some of you on the east coast though... I've got hold of their album Oceanic feeling. I must say: It's an incredibly good album. It has a very warm, nice athmosphere. Especially the 12 minutes long "My mother flies" which is just beautiful! It reminds me of a mixture of Roxy, Eno, Metro (anyone remember them?), Magazine (Burst-ish) and maybe a little of the later Cure-stuff. I would recommend it to everybody on the list. Maybe you can get it directly from Christian. I suggest you should all support him by buing his album! I haven't told him about this introduction / review(, so I hope it's OK by him). I honestly didn't think about it until Richard raised it, but I agree. The only time Bry addresses his fans is when he chooses to do so, and he's perfectly within his rights never to do so, but I do have to quibble about that "can" bit. He "can" talk to us via any number of channels night and day if he wants to. He doesn't. That's cool. But I visit all sorts of official band sites where the artists choose to make regular contact. Will Sergeant sends messages to the Bunnymen's board all the time. Maria McKee handwrites long letters to her fans which are scanned in and posted on her site. Bry probably doesn't have the time to fiddle with fanboards right *now*, but should he desire to do so when he's off the tour, there's no can or cannot in the picture, and he shouldn't think in those terms. I tried but I couldn't find a way. It's a song that I really DON'T LIKE, while the rest of Stranded is the most wonderful pearl of the universe. I believe Psalm could fit in much better on the first album. At 17.42 12/07/01 +0100, Simon Galloway wrote: >In the recent "Uncut" article Ferry claims it was the first song he ever wrote. It's obviously serious, though I'd agree the Musikladen version comes across a bit differently (but excellent nonetheless). It also shows that Bryan's tambourine shaking had not reached professional heights. In a Q qwuestionnaire in 1993 Ferry answered the question "Do you believe in God?" with "I wish I knew." He seemed to be more certain in his early days, and remember there's a line or two about heaven in Dream Home too though maybe with some irony, who knows. I wish I knew. The lineup for London/Sire 50th Anniversary tribute to Sun Records just keeps growing and growing. Bon Jovi and Sheryl Crow are the latest acts to sign up for the star-studded, as-yet-untitled record, which previously included Paul McCartney (Elvis Presley's "That's All Right"), Bob Dylan (Warren Smith's "Red Cadillac and a Black Moustache"), Mark Knopfler (Smith's "Rock & Roll Ruby"), Bryan Ferry (Presley's "Don't Be Cruel"), Page & Plant, Chris Isaak (Presley's "It Wouldn't Be the Same Without You"), Jeff Beck and the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde (Little Junior's Blues Flames' "Mystery Train"), Ben Folds Five (Carl Perkins' "Honey Don't"), Van Morrison (Jerry Lee Lewis' "Jambalaya"), Aerosmith, Kid Rock (Yelvington, Malcolm & the Star Rhythm's "Drinkin' Wine, Spo-Dee-O-Dee"), the Who (Lewis' "It'll Be Me"), Tom Petty, Elton John, and Third Eye Blind (Johnny Cash's "Cry Cry Cry"). On his band's contribution, Third Eye Blind bassist Arion Salazar is quite pleased to be included in such esteemed company. "It's some f*cking heavy sh*t," he says. "It's a pleasure to be involved. The tune we did came out amazing. We changed it around a lot. It's pretty late '50s country rock and I wrote some new music for it and we completely changed the vibe." In addition to the album, director Bruce Sinofsky is putting together a documentary film on the making of the album and Sun Studio's impact on modern music. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V6 #301 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
