The only tracks I listen to when I listen to LST are the cover tunes. The covers on that disc are among my favorites of all of BF's covers. I don't think I've ever heard the originals of any of them with the exception of It's Only Love, and I really think he does the Beatles justice on his version. Price of Love rocks as does the title track. I'll take the Roxy versions of the ones he reworked any day. When Bryan introduced the band he referred to Phil as "and over there on guitar, Phil Manzanera" because he was on extreme left of stage almost out of the picture!I have Bryan uttering these very words on a muffled tape from Festival Hall Melbourne (in the days when one could sneak in a tape recorder in a bag!!) Bryan also introduced the same band line-up on a TV special for Channel 7 in Australia. Phil was on that show too. (I have this on tape as well) I don't believe that Birch, Collins and McHugh were on the Australian leg of the tour. Scotty Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Thurs.June21 2001. Arrive late morning @LHR.Touched down onto the tarmac to find England in the first day of Summer, basking in glorious sunshine-a perfect day for 'The Ladies' sporting the seasons finest, down the road at Ascot. What made me leave this green and pleasant land,I pondered?......Looking out the window, I was pricked to my senses-as we taxied to the gate, there in fine Virgin livery stood 'Virginia Plane'. Ah... thats why i'm back! As the picture of a posse of AMA bound Dutch Avalonians and Customs Officials flashed through my brain ! I was to stay by sheer coincidence at The Tara Hotel, plucked from a long list purely by cost/location factoring. The best way to describe my feelings of anticipation for the forthcoming shows, was one of mild fear.Like everyone on here,I was so afraid that IT may just not work for me any more? I was in the very fortunate position of having six front row tickets (A2) for Fri/Sat nights. The first time in my life that I have been able to saunter at my leisure to the front of house-someone must have been a good boy this past 18 years.....? The Metropolitan line is still running, the famous Towers are still standing and Wembley Arena is still a grim, third rate arena, hanging on to the last breath of life. Ferry plays stately homes.Roxy deserve better than this. I was reminiscing looking at the billboards, the Flesh & Blood Romanesque Nymphs burned into my psyche, like it was only yesterday, and i was only 26 again. Time is a thief. My fears were growing.I had arrived early for the show.Too much time on my hands.Shit, these people look old.......Middle aged couples ambled along.Mostly emotionless. Was this the Rovers,a Bingo Hall?Where was the fever? Where was the tension? Where was the Lipstick and Leather? This wasn't quite the way I had remembered things? Things began to get a little more crowded as the time passed by.I was in the unbelievable position on Saturday night of having three extra front row tickets to get rid of at the last minute.I so desperately wanted someone who loved this band to get these seats.I was walking around for two hours offering these front row at face value..........No takers.I thought the whole place had gone stark raving MAD ! In my unenviable position as a flybynight Ticket Tout,I spotted two sharply dressed ,vaguely familiar faces, approaching me .Ah! Mssrs Reece & Turner I concluded. After a brief introduction Chris kindly invited me to meet up with him and the others after the show. The reports and reviews have flooded in i'm sure by now,and I have another 700 e-mails to catch up on,but suffice to say,Roxy Music still cast a spell. From the moment the curtains opened untill the lights came on-I stood,I sang,I danced and I smiled like a 26 year old.No one told me to sit down,No one criticised my dancing, and my wife hasn't frozen our bank account.............YET ! I told the chap who had the young boy on his shoulders to come to the front row about halfway through the show,as there was an empty seat, but seemingly the over zealous security staff still moved him on......pointless really? Ferry was a Rapier in Silver Suit........Spedding a Fairground Waltzer Rider.........sans Flick-knife and Lurcher. My fears had gone,.......but so have Roxy . Lift Up Your Feet.... Finally I got to meet and thank some of the very generous and kind characters that make up part of this list.I didn't get around to talking to half as many people that i would have liked to ,but next time?Andrew ,Betsey,Ivor Jocelyn,Imogen, Simon,Ole,John etc etc. As we parted ,a Scottish friend who had joined me for the evening said "So what your'e saying David is, these people are obsessed?" Yes something like that ,John.......
