Was at the Video suite yesterday morning, hassling to get a definite date for getting all the remaining batches of Vids back, to mail out to you lot ! Good news on that front, as the entire last 4 batches (VHS Rhapsody, VHS Penthouse, NTSC Rhapsody, NTSC Penthouse) are being delivered to me next Wednesday afternoon, 4th July. Therefore, a fun time ahead this coming weekend of putting covers & inserts into cases in preparation, addressing rather a lot of envelopes, and filling out reams of those little green customs forms. So, mail-out frenzy it is next Thurs 5th, Fri 6th, Sat 7th - the whole damn lot will be on the way to you. All USA and similar far-reaches from here will go by surface mail. Sincere apologies for the delay, it's been a rather busy time, but I place the blame for the delay partly on the Video suite being extra busy at this time of year with loads of orders of 'summer wedding videos to copy'(really), and partly on a bunch of fifty-something guys deciding to tramp the boards at the same time. Not that I'm complaining much about the latter. Enjoy the Vids. Yes, c'est moi. You must have seen me across a crowded Wembley Arena! Friday 22nd. And, boy, yes, did I enjoy it! A fabulous creation! I would have gone back for more, but I was van-driving for 2 different sets of friends for the rest of the weekend and somewhat indisposed. In fact I was driving said van down the North Circular at about the right time on Sunday, but I didn't have enough cash on me for Mr Touty. Now I really wish I'd planned better and gone! I'm still hoping for a last-minute extra UK gig or Paris or somewhere else I can get to. TOTP2 was a mere hors d'oeuvre really, wasn't it? No atmosphere. Restrained performances. The real thing was a satisfying main course and a nice dessert. Not too filling either! Left me wanting more. My main thought afterwards was: can't wait for the DVD of the tour! And then: Roxy could have played at least three sets of the same length and quality, without exhausting the high quality material they've recorded over the years. Which means it would be nice if they do this again in a year or two. Who knows... maybe they'll enjoy it just enough (including the extra income) to do it again. I thought there were a few flaws. Could have lived without Heart Still Beating and the instrumental (Tara was it?). Mother of Pearl suffered from indistinct sound in both the loud and quiet parts, I thought. Mostly I loved it though. Better than expected. I feared an evening of Greatest Hits, slavishly trying to recreate the sound of the records, though I did hope Roxy were above doing that... and they were, of course. The opening and the finale were particularly impressive, which is a sign of good planning if nothing else! And I didn't think the set was too short. Just right for me. On the tube going home, a lady nearby had a mobile phone conversation. "It was OK," she said tentatively. "But they didn't play my favourites... you know, Dance Away, Angel Eyes, Slave To Love..." Bad luck, Madame. Maybe next time! (But I wouldn't put too much money on Slave To Love...) The crowning events took place at one of the many palais royales of Avalonia, in or near Empire Way at the center of the known universe. But first I had to visit the Prime Minister of Avalon, the gallant Lord Reecey, in his elegant Crouch End shrine, to receive my Documents of Safe Conduct to the Palais de Wembley. Behind the scenes, the Grand Duke Ambassador, His Courtliness Lord Turner had in subtle fashion, using mysterious methods, procured the documents for me. Such bliss on the first night of my pilgrimage, to come across the Lord Privy Councillor Stockman, accompanied by the Chancellor of the Roxchequer Lord Fedder, they being accompanied by two mysterious and glamo(u)rous ladies, courtesans doubtless. "More champagne, to lose this pain of First-Night Nerves," cried His Worship Martino! And all fears were banished. In the midst of the heaven that ensued came a truly sublime moment, as The Deity Himself invoked the name of the Late Lord Simon, his saintly muse, as he introduced a most divine anthem.... Afterwards, basking in the RoxyGlow, I made my curtsies to the Crown Prince of Roxy, the charismatic Laird O'BryanFerry, and to His Courtliness Ambassador Turner, and at last to the Princesse Royale of Avalonia, the charming, delightfully witty and entertaining Jocelyn, Lady Jocundity, the Siren EarthGoddess of Roxydom, showing off her elfin beauty in black Eskimos and Geordies attire. And also to the High Priest of all Knowledge, the Archbishop Ivor of Hertfordshire, whose old-world charm is more than enough. One of the young Nobles regaled me with tales of Lord Price of Bradford, the Roxy Stylemaster, most marvellous. The evening ended with a long coach-ride accompanied by the Crown Prince O'BrienFerry, floating in the stratosphere and in constant telephonic touch with all that transpired, and then began the next evening with a gorgeous repast courtesy of the same Laird at the scene of the previous evening's obsequies. And then all the magic was repeated, Lords Fedder and Stockman brought their beatific baronesses, we were graced with the presence of the Lady Trez, most eligible of all the Roxy Princesses, I met Lee the Artisan, most talented and entertaining, and I mingled with nobles from other lands: a Norwegian physician-prince from the Ancient Kingdom of Bergen, soon to move his entourage to the Land of Perpetual Sun; Lady Patsy of Rome and her young squire (all tigers and leopards); the Royal Dutch Contingent, the twins Han-dy and Andy, in High Spirits (and High Dudgeon against the security staff at the palais, who were powerless over them). From the provinces, there was the broadly smiling SimonG of York-Shire, the Court Jester of Roxy; wonderful Anglo-American David, who refused his title some years ago and emigrated, but is never gone for long; a most un-BarryMcKenzie-ish Ozzie, no Matilda-waltzer he, who will be halfway round the world again soon for a repeat performance...and More Than This, There is Nothing! And so, to repeat myself, and someone else, now who was it? "Was it a vision, or a waking dream? Fled is that music..." Back in my plebian califorlornian existence, deep in post-Roxy depression, hoping some of the magic will return in August, but what will it be worth without all the Royals of Avalonia? - -Betsy ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V6 #269 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
