I fully agree with your sentiments on this. The DVD of Le Grand Rex.should have been released in time to go with last years open air shows. Had this been done I'm pretty sure they could have shifted a good 3000 to the folk attending the shows as a one off. By the time it came out these folk would probably have moved on to something else. I know that 3000 doesn't sound very high when compared with record sales, but as far as I have been lead to believe it is a very high sales number for video and DVD. Yet another missed opportunity by Ferry's record company. Positive! A good day... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Heather M. Buch I grew up reading Mad Magazine. I read my dad's collection (1958 - 1975) about 3 times each. When I finished with it, it was nowhere near the collectors item it had once been. William Gaines was a great man. Heather - -------------------------------------- Indeed he was. He attended the US Senate sub-committee hearings on comic books (are they turning American youth into maniacs? etc.) on speed, and made a prat of himself. Allegedly. He was Punk before there was Punk! :O) Guy ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 09:29:48 +0200 From: Stephen.Pepperrell@t-online.de (Stephen Pepperrell) Subject: [AVALON] Roxy Music in Munich Have just returned home after a 1600 KM car trip and approx, 2 hours sleep inbetween. Was it worth it ? A definite yes. Roxy Music took the Olympic Hall by storm last night. About 6,000 fans were present - the hall was'nt quite sold out - but still an excellent attendance. RM were in top form. BF showing no signs of voice strain. He wore: first the back suit, then the white smoking and finally a silver, glittering suit. AM was in top gear from start to finish. Impeccable. PM - stunning. The backgound musicians were the real support though. CS excelled especially on "My Only Love" - backgound vocals to his solo was'nt the best of ideas. The Munich audience were surprised in the strength and power of the performance. RM played confidently and convictingly throughout. Even "Jealous Guy" was played with great enthusiasm. Set list: Same 95 minute, 18 songs show as at Wembley - they kept "In Every..." instead of playing "Avalon". Both IFIS and MTS were deleted from the programme as well. The only disappointment was perhaps the length of the show. And if Bryan Ferry has troubles with his throat again, it will probably be due to the feathers on stage ! The crowd were surprised - I believe that most people were expecting "Avalon" and "Flesh and Blood" to be played completely. At the end during "For Your Pleasure" there was an absolute silence in the crowd - I'm not sure if anyone there (most people anyway) knew this song. The crowd cheered in particular: "My Only Love", "Oh Yeah" "Jealous Guy", "Song for Europe", and were great in their support for RM. RM seemed to enjoy themselves, especially Lucy. Her dancing alone was a highlight - fantastically sexy - if I may say so. AM's exit was "coolness - pure". A stunning performance from a stunning group of musicians. It makes you wonder where they were or where they "went wrong" the last 18 years. I'm checking my agenda - I have to see this concert again somewhere. Thanks for listening, Stephen ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 09:29:48 +0200 From: Stephen.Pepperrell@t-online.de (Stephen Pepperrell) Subject: [AVALON] Roxy Music in Munich Have just returned home after a 1600 KM car trip and approx, 2 hours sleep inbetween. She loved the Roxy Music concert (Friday, Wembley) but she did see this writing request as akin to a homework assignment. Anyhow here goes (complete with spelling errors) exactly as written: "When they first came on, I was excited. First Bryan Ferry wore a silver jacket. The drummer wore a black shirt and jeans. The clarinet player wore a suit and a red tie. The guitar player wore white suit. The other guitar player wore a blue hat and suit to go with it. My favourite song was the one they came on with. Is it Remake Remodel? That and the one you and me like the most [Out Of The Blue]. I love the sound the instruments make. There were clarinet, saxophone, guitars, piano, keyboard and shakers. I thought they were brilliant and Bryan Ferry is so cool. His not old at all. I love his songs, there excellent, brill, I love them all, even the ones on his own [Charlotte saw his solo tour last year]. There was lots of people clapping, cheering, shouting, tapping there feet on the floor, singing, asking for more." May I venture to say that her views are not so different from anyone else on the list? Although she does manage to completely ignore the women who appeared on stage (Reecey!)...
