That's a great fear of mine, as most of the concerts I go to are usually about 150 miles away. I live in a college town that's big enough to get some shows, but things like Roxy Music end up being in Chicago, and that's quite a road trip. Between road construction, traffic, car trouble, and weather trouble, it's a miracle that in the 100 or so concerts I've gone to, I've never missed one due to one of those factors. There was one where I arrived in Chicago only to find it had been postponed due to illness. That was really annoying, since I had to go home then come back again a few days later. Another time, I went to visit a friend in Lawrence, Kansas (about 500 miles from where I live), only to find that one of my very favorite singers in the whole world had performed there the first evening I was in town--and I didn't know about it! That bent me out of shape for the whole trip. Oh well. I ultimately saw her at several other concerts. Slightly more on topic, I must say I'm a bit concerned about the reports of the ever-decreasing set list. By the time they get to Chicago, it's going to be down to "Do the Strand!" But I think you are forgetting, or hoping we forget, what actually happened. Why don't we go back to "the record." 1. You said you had things to trade, and listed them. 2. I asked if these could be made available to the list via the usual practice of a CD tree. 3 (a). You said they could not be shared unless people traded something with you directly. Now if you had stopped there, people would have still been upset, but it would have blown over. However, you added this part (3 (b) (c) and (d)): > may be persuaded to go along with Judy's idea of a cd featuring the best > performance of each song from his own recordings, but I wouldn't put any > money on it. It now seems all of which seemed to me, and to others, to be both highly insulting and also unnecessary. Well, unnecessary unless your goal was to troll the list, and to manufacture an unpleasant incident where you felt justified for behaving as you have and being able to blame the horrible hoi polloi on Avalon. > It's just a pity that the list members who tried to read so many > negative things into my original posting could not do the same from a > more positive angle, a few did and mailed me off list as I had As it's a pity that you can't understand that at this point you are best served by either (a) a sincere apology or (b) a prolonged silence. All anyone wants is to have a listen, but you act like you`re guarding some sort of Holy Grail. >>There was a time when he considered subscribing to the >> Avalon list, but was put off by the amount arguing that frequently >> erupts on list, though he has enjoyed meeting the odd Avalonian when we >> have attended gigs together over the last couple of years. Oh, and one can only dream of the fantasy life we all would have led if ONLY Tom`s *friend* would have joined the list. Can we EVER live down the fact that Tom`s *friend* was turned off by something on our list? The Horror.....The Horror....... Well, guess what, Tom......and *friend*? You can keep your friggin' recordings and your *friend* can suck an egg as well! As much as I`d love a copy I refuse to suck ass for it like your *friend* made you do by making you agree to such unreasonable terms in the first place. Letting someone dictate what you can do with YOUR property. Pathetic! If this is your view how come you have been contacting me off list about trades. At least I don't do one thing in private and another in public to try an gain favour. You can say what you want about me, but at least I don't go sneekin around being two faced. In my eyes your the PATHETIC one here, not I.
